In an interview with VietNamNet, the top 3 Miss Vietnam 2024 shared intimate memories of celebrating Tet.
Miss Nguyen Ngoc Kieu Duy said that the first day of Tet has a very special meaning in her family because it is also the death anniversary of a relative. "It is both an occasion for the family to happily reunite and a time to reflect and remember loved ones. No matter how busy I am, I will return to my family on the first day of Tet," Kieu Duy shared.
As a child of the Western region, the beauty queen's family mainly cooks banh tet during Tet instead of banh chung like in the North. Therefore, she expressed her wish to visit the two runners-up's house in the future to experience the traditional atmosphere of wrapping and cooking banh chung.
First runner-up Do Thi Phuong Thanh is still attached to warm memories of Tet holidays with her family. She said that since she was little, she followed her grandparents to wrap Chung cakes on the 27th day of Tet. "I often sat next to the big pot of Chung cakes, staying up all night with my cousins. That feeling was very happy," Phuong Thanh recalled.
When Kieu Duy jokingly asked about staying up all night as a child, Phuong Thanh laughed and said those were memorable moments when she was able to gather with her family and experience the beauty of traditional culture during Tet.
Meanwhile, runner-up Nguyen Thi Cam Ly has a rather unique hobby of enjoying banh chung - a traditional dish that is indispensable during Tet. "Ly is a bit strange because she eats banh chung but doesn't like to eat the filling. I will reserve a cake of my own without any filling, just sticky rice," she shared about her special hobby.
Every year, when Tet comes, Cam Ly’s family has a tradition of gathering together to wrap Chung cakes. This is not only an occasion for family members to reunite but also an opportunity to teach and preserve cultural beauty for the next generation.
Kieu Duy expressed her desire to experience the Tet atmosphere and banh chung wrapping culture at the two runners-up's house, showing that the beautiful friendship between the beauties does not stop at the contest.
