Common problems when driving in the rain

Rain not only reduces the driver's visibility but also makes many parts of the car susceptible to problems or damage.

In addition to the problem of slippery roads and reduced visibility, heavy rain can also directly affect vehicle components. Here are some common problems when driving in the rain:

Windshield fog

When it rains, the lower temperature causes condensation on the windshield and causes fogging. This obstructs the driver's vision, directly affecting the driving process. To overcome this situation, you should activate the windshield defroster function or turn on the air conditioner, select the mode to blow air onto the windshield.

Not only the windshield, the side mirrors also get blurred when driving in the rain. To limit this situation, drivers can attach a rain cover to the rearview mirror or use an anti-fog film for the rearview mirror.

Difficult to observe

If it rains too heavily, the driver's visibility will be limited even though the wipers are still working effectively. At this time, the driver should turn on the hazard warning lights and fog lights so that other vehicles can see. In addition, the driver should keep a distance from the vehicle in front.

Engine failure

Heavy rain can easily lead to flooding, causing the car to hydro-lock. This is a phenomenon where water enters the engine through the air intake. Water entering the engine prevents the fuel from burning, causing the car to suddenly stall.

In this case, the driver should not start the engine because it can cause water to be sucked deep into the engine, creating great resistance, breaking the crankshaft or damaging the entire engine.

Poor braking

When driving in the rain, the braking system may be less responsive. The most common phenomenon is that the braking system makes an unpleasant sound. Therefore, it is recommended to periodically maintain the vehicle to check and replace the brake fluid, especially if the vehicle has run more than 40,000 km.

Hydroplaning

This is a common phenomenon when driving in the rain due to slippery roads. Therefore, drivers should drive at a moderate speed and avoid sudden braking.

In case of heavy rain or strong wind, do not continue driving. Instead, stop and park in a safe place.
