According to RIA Novosti on February 10, the White House press team said on February 9 (Washington time) that US President Donald Trump refused to disclose detailed information about his communications with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“The President refused to specify the time and frequency of contact with Mr. Putin,” said the group of reporters accompanying the US head of state.

Information about the talks between the two leaders appeared earlier in the US New York Post. The newspaper confirmed that the parties discussed topics related to Ukraine. At the same time, President Trump himself refused to answer questions from the media about the number of times he contacted President Putin.

In a conversation with Izvestia, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, neither confirmed nor denied information about the phone call between the Russian and American leaders.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in person. According to the Russian leader's aide, Yuri Ushakov, there have been no contacts between Moscow and Washington on this issue, but Russia is ready to listen to relevant proposals.

Professor Tuomas Malinen of the University of Helsinki said that US President Donald Trump must admit defeat in the conflict in Ukraine to reach a peace agreement.

“Making peace almost always requires admitting defeat. Now that awaits Donald Trump. In any non-nuclear scenario, the US and NATO will lose the war in Ukraine,” Malinen said, adding that the only question is how far the US leader is willing to go before realizing that defeat is inevitable.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump had instructed his special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, to end the conflict in Ukraine within 100 days. Mr. Kellogg later said that he would not present a plan to resolve the conflict as planned, noting that only the US leader could present such a plan. At the same time, he expressed the view that only President Trump could end the conflict in Ukraine.
