Opening Ceremony of the King Mai Temple Festival 2025
On the morning of February 11th (the 14th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Snake), at the special national historical site of the tomb of King Mai Hac De in Nam Dan town, the Party Committee and government of Nam Dan district solemnly organized a ceremony to offer incense in commemoration and inaugurate the 2025 King Mai Temple Festival, coinciding with the 1,312th anniversary of the Hoan Chau uprising.
Attending the opening ceremony were Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council. Also present were members of the Provincial Party Committee: Bui Dinh Long – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Thi Hong Hoa – Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; Tran Thi My Hanh – Director of the Department of Culture and Sports; Kha Van Tam – Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor; representatives of the leadership of Nam Dan district and neighboring districts, along with a large number of people from all walks of life.
FestivalKing Mai TempleThe event, organized by Nam Dan district from the 13th to the 15th of January every year, commemorates the merits of Emperor Mai Thuc Loan and his generals and soldiers, and recalls the heroic spirit and indomitable will of the Hoan Chau uprising, which defeated the Tang dynasty invaders and established the independent Van An kingdom for 10 years (713-722).
The King Mai Temple Festival is a traditional festival aimed at educating the patriotic spirit of all segments of the population, especially the younger generation. It is also an opportunity to organize cultural activities to enrich the spiritual life of the people; and at the same time, create opportunities for visitors from all over to learn about and appreciate the traditional cultural values and beautiful customs of the Nghe An region.
In addition, the festival also contributes to promoting the Mai Hac De historical and cultural relic - a special national relic, as well as the tourism potential of Nam Dan district.
Prior to the opening ceremony, the District Party Committee, the People's Council, the People's Committee, the Fatherland Front Committee of Nam Dan district, and people from all walks of life organized a grand ceremony according to traditional rituals at the temple of King Mai, located in Mai Hac De block, Nam Dan town.
During the opening ceremony, delegates and the public enjoyed a performance of the Van An drum ensemble, dragon and lion dances performed by actors from the Nam Dan District Cultural, Sports and Communication Center; followed by the recitation of the ceremonial eulogy, the beating of drums to officially open the festival, and the offering of incense to commemorate King Mai.

During the festival, many unique cultural and sporting activities are organized, such as youth camps, men's volleyball, wrestling, stick pushing, card games, cockfighting, etc., contributing to the festival's appeal and attracting a large number of visitors from all over to participate.
