The upward momentum is expected to continue this year as pepper production declines and demand outstrips supply. Currently, pepper supply in the global market is in short supply and demand is expected to remain stable or increase.

Pepper prices are forecast to continue to increase in the short term, especially if the Chinese market, one of the largest customers of Vietnamese pepper, increases imports again.

Some industry analysts predict that Vietnamese pepper prices could increase by 40% to 50% from current levels.

World pepper price today

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of pepper of all types traded in the international market on February 20 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia’s Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,298 per tonne. Similarly, Muntok white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,143 per tonne.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,700/mt.

Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price is stable compared to yesterday at 9,000 USD/ton. In addition, the country's ASTA white pepper price is also stable compared to yesterday at 11,600 USD/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained stable compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,500 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,650 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,550/ton.

According to Thestar, in 2025, IPC forecasts that global production will continue to decline partly due to the lower economic efficiency of pepper compared to other crops, leading many farmers to no longer choose pepper as their main crop.

Other factors affecting production include harsh climate, which reduces pepper productivity while production costs increase significantly.

With the forecast of a shortage of supply and output, pepper importers in the US and Europe, who have realized early that the global pepper price trend will continue to increase, are rushing to stock up, causing pepper prices to stay high.
