Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc has been appointed Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen Van Duoc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, has been elected by the City People's Council to the position of Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.
This afternoon (February 20th), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council held its regular meeting to address personnel matters and consider and approve proposals from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
At the meeting, the attending delegates of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council voted to elect Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, as Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, replacing Mr. Phan Van Mai, who had taken on a new assignment. The voting result was 83 out of 84 votes in favor, achieving 98.8%.
Previously, on the afternoon of February 19th, the Politburo issued a decision to transfer, assign, and appoint Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc to cease his participation in the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Long An Provincial Party Committee, and to relinquish his position as Secretary of the Long An Provincial Party Committee. He was then assigned to the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
At the same time, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee appointed Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc to the Party Committee Executive Board, holding the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
Speaking after being elected Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc said that he felt very honored and proud, but also considered this a heavy responsibility and would always strive to fulfill the assigned tasks.
He pledged to inherit the experience, build upon the achievements and spirit of unity of the previous generation and his predecessors who had painstakingly built the system, constantly striving to improve and learn in order to contribute to the successful implementation of socio-economic tasks. The immediate goal is to complete and achieve the highest possible results for the targets and indicators set forth in the resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term.
The new Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also pledged to wholeheartedly and diligently serve the people and the development of Ho Chi Minh City. He also hoped to receive regular guidance and support from the Central Government, the City Party Secretary, the City Party Committee, political and social organizations, and especially the unity of the members of the City People's Committee.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc was born in 1968 in Long An province. He holds a Master's degree in Geology and a Senior Certificate in Political Theory.
