After a disappointing season marked by injuries and inconsistent form, the England midfielder has been linked with a move to Inter Milan. But is this a chance to "rescue" Mount's stalling career, or simply a cruel "loss-cutting" move from Man Utd?

According to InterLive, the Serie A champions are interested in signing Mount on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, the Nerazzurri are not willing to shoulder the former Chelsea star's "huge" £250,000-a-week salary, and want Man Utd to "shoulder" a significant portion of this salary while Mount is at Inter.

Inter Milan are in the market for a quality addition to their midfield, especially with veteran Henrikh Mkhitaryan turning 36. Mount is seen as a potential replacement, with his creativity and experience at the highest level. However, Inter’s tight finances mean they have to be careful about the cost.

Mount joined Man Utd from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for a hefty fee of £55 million (excluding add-ons). However, the 26-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. A series of injuries has limited Mount to just 32 appearances in all competitions, contributing just one goal and one assist. This poor form has made Mount one of Man Utd's most disappointing signings in recent years.

Ruben Amorim, who was recently appointed to the hot seat at Man Utd, expressed his admiration for Mount when he was in charge of Sporting Lisbon. He believed Mount had the qualities that suited his footballing philosophy, and could shine at Old Trafford. However, a series of injuries have prevented Mount from proving himself under Amorim, with the Portuguese tactician making just two appearances since taking charge.

In that context, Inter Milan's interest in Mount could be seen as a "lifesaver" for both the player and the club. If Mount can revive his career in Serie A, it will be a positive sign for both him and Man Utd. On the contrary, if Mount continues to disappoint, Man Utd may have to face a difficult problem in finding a new destination for this player.

However, Man Utd's decision to "take on" part of Mount's salary for Inter Milan can be seen as a cruel "loss-cutting" move. It shows that the Red Devils no longer have much faith in Mount's ability to recover his form, and are willing to "sell him off" to reduce the financial burden. The final decision will belong to Man Utd, and fans are waiting to see where Mason Mount's future will go.
