Driver shares effective and economical anti-mouse tips for cars

Using nets, hanging essential oils, python fat or even tying fishing hooks in areas where rats often visit are simple measures that many drivers apply to repel rats from their cars.

Animals in general and rats in particular, when entering cars, will cause a lot of trouble. These "uninvited guests" can freely stay and make nests, drag garbage and food into the car, causing unpleasant odors.

More seriously, they will bite and destroy plastic parts, electrical wires, fuel pipes, coolant lines, air conditioning lines, etc., making the car unable to operate, even at risk of fire or explosion.

Below are some simple ways that drivers pass on to each other to help limit rats from entering cars:

Hang essential oils and camphor in the engine compartment

The most popular method used by many drivers is to use essential oils, camphor, camphor tablets, etc. to prevent rats from entering the engine compartment.

Some car owners also hang strong-smelling balms and oils such as Sao Vang balm, Phat Linh balm or Con Ho balm,...

With the smell and chemicals in essential oils, many types of mice and insects such as cockroaches, ants,... are afraid and do not dare to come near.

This is a cheap and easy method, however, it is usually only effective for a short time because essential oils, camphor or balm will lose their scent after many days of use.

On the other hand, these essential oils when exposed to high temperatures in the engine compartment can easily deteriorate, even causing a risk of fire or explosion.

Use python fat or beef fat to apply inside the engine compartment.

Many "old hands" tell each other to apply snake fat or beef fat to the pipe positions in the engine compartment that are prone to being bitten by rats. These types of fat make the path of rats slippery, making it difficult for the "rats" to access and stay in the engine compartment.

In addition, these fats have a natural odor characteristic of natural enemies that scares mice away and makes them afraid to come near.

Snake fat, beef fat, etc. have a fairly long-lasting effect, but the major disadvantage of this method is that the parts in the engine compartment are very susceptible to dirt accumulation, are difficult to clean, and can have bad odors carried into the passenger compartment through the air conditioning.

Use specialized mesh fence

Recently, anti-mouse bumpers for cars have been used by many people. With a sturdy material structure and metal frame, the bumper can prevent mice or other pets such as dogs, cats,... from approaching and biting the car.

The disadvantage of this method is that the price is quite high, averaging from 1.5-2 million/unit. Along with that, the large size makes it cumbersome to disassemble and assemble, only suitable for cars that are parked in one place for a long time, rarely get in and out of the car and on a relatively flat surface.

Tie the fishing hook cluster to the engine compartment

This is a fairly cheap way to chase away mice but achieves surprising results. Accordingly, you only need to tie about 5-17 cluster fish hooks (hexagonal hooks) to important points in the engine compartment and let the hooks point up. The sharp tips of the hooks can easily injure the mice when they move through, making them scared and leave.

The advantage of this method is that it is cheap, easy to do, and has little impact on the parts under the hood. However, choosing the position and fixing the hex blades requires experience to be effective.

Set traps in the engine compartment, under the car

Not only looking for ways to get rid of mice, many car owners also resort to more "heavy" methods, by placing traps or mouse glue around the car, in the engine compartment and even in the passenger compartment and trunk.

Overall, this is a fairly simple and easy way to kill rats, suitable for narrow parking spaces where rats have few ways to run. However, the effectiveness may not be high because the "rats" are very cunning and can completely avoid the traps created by humans.

Use ultrasonic mouse repellant

With the development of technology, many ultrasonic mouse repelling devices have been born with a selling price of only 200 - 400 thousand VND. When plugged into a power source, these devices will emit high-frequency sounds, making mice uncomfortable and stay away.

The advantage is that it can repel mice within a radius of 3 - 5m, so one device is effective for many vehicles.

However, the downside is that it requires an electrical outlet near the parking area, which is quite inconvenient when parking outdoors. In addition, these devices (mostly made in China) are often not tested for safety around humans and other animals.

The above measures all have their own advantages, disadvantages and effectiveness. Therefore, car owners can apply many ways to find the most optimal solution for themselves.

According to experienced experts, before thinking about ways to prevent rats, the most important thing is to choose a dry, airy parking place with frequent traffic, because these are places where rats rarely go.

At the same time, always keep the engine compartment and interior clean, avoid spilling leftover food, drinks or things that can attract mice to nest and bite.
