Fishing boat sinks on way into creek, 4 crew members missing

On the way into the creek to get to shore, the fishing boat suddenly sank, causing 4 fishermen to go missing.

On the evening of March 18, the People's Committee of Van Hai commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) received a report from local residents about a shipwreck that left four people living in Quynh Luu district missing.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien - Vice Chairman of Van Hai Commune People's Committee said: at 18:00 on March 18, 2025, fishing boat NA-80209-TS, piloted by Mr. Nguyen Van C. - Captain, and 3 crew members, had an accident on the way to Lach Quen, in the sea about 5-6 nautical miles from Mat Island (at coordinates 18052'N-105056'E). The cause of the boat sinking is currently unknown.

The four missing people on the ship include: Captain: Nguyen Van C. (born in 1980), residing in village 9, Van Hai commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province. Chief engineer Tran Van H. (born in 1995), residing in village 4, Van Hai commune and 2 crew members: Le Tuan A. (born in 2005), residing in village 4, Van Hai commune and Bui Sy N. (born in 1977), residing in Minh Thanh village, Thuan Long commune, Quynh Luu district.

Fishing vessel NA-80209-TS has a capacity of 320 CV, manufactured in 2011 in Nghe An. The vessel departed from Lach Quen on March 17, 2025.

The location of the boat in distress has now been determined. Fishing vessel NA-80054-TS discovered the towline of fishing vessel NA-80209-TS and tied it to its own vessel.

The Commune People's Committee is coordinating with Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station to grasp the situation and inform vehicles near the accident area to search for the 4 crew members.

The search for the missing fishermen is still being urgently deployed.
