Drug addict sentenced to prison for going into the forest to buy drugs
Ha Van Duong, a long-time drug addict, spent a large sum of money to buy drugs. After walking into the forest to buy drugs, on the way back, the young man was arrested.
On April 2, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Ha Van Duong (born 1995), residing in Chau Hoan commune, Quy Chau district (Nghe An) for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".
According to the indictment, at around 4:00 p.m. on November 21, 2024, Ha Van Duong asked to ride on someone else's motorbike to Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district to buy drugs for use. This young man walked along the trail into the forest and met a man (identity unknown).

At this time, it was late at night, Duong asked the person “Do you have drugs to sell?” and they answered “yes”. Duong proposed to buy 14 million VND worth of drugs. The two parties agreed to buy 5 packages of pink phien (priced at 10 million VND) and 4 million VND to buy heroin.
The next afternoon, Duong walked from the forest area to the road to catch a bus home. However, when he reached the road in Pao village, Quang Phong commune, he was discovered and caught red-handed by the Que Phong district police.
At this time, Duong voluntarily took out the drugs from his body and handed them over to the police. The investigation agency determined that Ha Van Duong must bear criminal responsibility for possessing more than 100 grams of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant said that because he was addicted, he bought drugs to use gradually even though he knew that his behavior was wrong.
Previously, Ha Van Duong was sentenced to 2 years in prison for "Illegal drug trafficking".
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were dangerous to society and violated the law. After a comprehensive review of the case, the court sentenced defendant Ha Van Duong to 16 years in prison for "Illegal possession of narcotics".
As for the drug dealer, because the defendant's identity and background are unknown, the investigation agency has no basis for prosecution.
