Child marriage is a burning issue in many mountainous districts in Nghe An, hindering the process of improving population quality and the quality of life of each person and each family.

On the morning of April 12, Vinh University organized a scientific workshop with the theme "The current situation of child marriage and the effectiveness of child marriage prevention and control among some ethnic minorities in the western districts of Nghe An province".

The workshop was attended by leaders of the Department of Science and Technology, representatives of Vinh University, Nghe An Provincial Political School and representatives of a number of relevant departments, branches and sectors.

The workshop program is within the framework of implementing the provincial-level scientific and technological research project: "Assessing the current situation and proposing solutions to improve the effectiveness of child marriage prevention and control among some ethnic minorities in the western districts of Nghe An province" byVinh Universityperform.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Van Dai - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Law, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vinh University - Project Manager, outlined the situation of child marriage in some districts of Western Nghe An. According to him, this is a bad custom that has existed for many years, causing great obstacles to sustainable socio-economic development, affecting social progress. Child marriage is not only a violation of the law but also leaves many consequences for individuals, families and communities; especially affecting the quality of human resources, population and the care, education and protection of children.

From the research results, in addition to the causes of living conditions, economic difficulties, and backward customs, the situation of early marriage also stems from low educational level, lack of access to information, and limited legal awareness. Many people do not fully understand the consequences of early marriage and incestuous marriage.

In some localities, local authorities have not really paid attention to the work of disseminating and popularizing legal education, especially the Law on Marriage and Family. The handling of cases of child marriage is not enough of a deterrent...

One of the current difficulties is that the implementation of policies and laws on marriage and family in ethnic minority areas is still limited. The administrative penalty for early marriage is still low, not enough to prevent it.

In many places, local authorities are still confused about how to handle violations. In addition, the response from the community is still very weak, with most still considering this a private matter of each family and clan.

Currently, most of the couples who get married early have to drop out of school early, leading to lack of social knowledge, affecting intellectual and physical development. At the same time, early marriage also causes loss of opportunities for education and employment, leading to low labor productivity, economic difficulties, easy conflicts in the family, and increased risk of poverty.

At the workshop, delegates presented reports assessing the current situation of child marriage and the work of preventing and combating child marriage in the communities of Thai, Mong, Tho, Kho Mu and some other ethnic groups in Western Nghe An.

At the same time, the reports outline the policy situation and achievements in the work of preventing and combating child marriage locally.
