USD exchange rate today, April 16, 2025: The US dollar is showing signs of a slight recovery as risk sentiment in global markets gradually improves. Although it has edged away from its three-year low against the Euro, the USD remains near a six-month low against the Japanese Yen.

The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the strength of the US dollar against six other major currencies such as the euro, Japanese yen, and British pound, rose slightly to 99.83 points on April 16, 2025, up 0.22 points from the previous day. This increase indicates a technical recovery of the US dollar after the sharp sell-off last week.

According to expert Vassili Serebriakov from UBS bank, the US dollar is no longer driven by short-term economic factors such as interest rate differentials, but primarily reflects global investment flows.

Investors are withdrawing from US assets due to concerns about an economic slowdown, inconsistent tariff policies, and more positive expectations for the European region.

This week the market was relatively quiet due to the Easter holiday in the US; however, investors remained cautious, especially awaiting further information regarding the Trump administration's tax policies.

Prashant Newnaha, an expert at TD Securities, noted that last week was a period of asset restructuring activity, while this week has been somewhat calmer thanks to the holiday effect.

In the foreign exchange market, the euro fell 0.28% against the USD, to $1.1317 – lower than the three-year high of $1.1473 set last week.

Pessimistic sentiment in Germany and signals of tighter credit conditions in the eurozone continue to put pressure on the common European currency.

Against the Japanese yen, the USD is currently trading around 143 yen, still close to the six-month low of 142.05 yen/USD recorded last weekend.

Japan is actively urging the U.S. to remove additional tariffs, according to chief negotiator Ryosei Akazawa during his three-day visit to Washington.

The USD also recovered 0.42% against the Swiss franc, rising to 0.818 after hitting a 10-year low last week. Meanwhile, riskier currencies such as the British pound, Australian dollar, and New Zealand dollar all strengthened significantly. Specifically, the pound rose to 1.3226 USD, the Australian dollar reached 0.6377 USD, and the New Zealand dollar rose to 0.5934 USD, all reaching their highest levels in several months.
