This year’s pepper harvest has almost ended across the country. In Dak Nong, people said they have completed the harvest. Dak Lak province, which accounts for about 30% of the country’s total pepper output, has also harvested about 80-90% of the area. Some other provinces such as Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dong Nai have also basically finished the crop.
In Quang Tri, the situation is not very optimistic when pepper output is forecast to decrease sharply by 60 to 70% due to the adverse effects of the weather. On average, the province's pepper output is about 1,000 tons per year.
Due to the high profits farmers made from durian and coffee in the last crop, many farmers decided to keep the pepper after harvest instead of selling it immediately. The hoarding has made the market scarce in supply even though the harvest season has just ended, contributing to the expectation of price increases in the coming time.
Currently, the pepper market is in a period of insufficient supply. Some opinions say that pepper prices can completely return to the 200,000 VND/kg mark. In the golden period, when pepper was priced at 230,000 VND/kg and gold was only at 35 million VND/tael, while currently gold prices have exceeded 120 million VND/tael.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) is stepping up trade promotion to expand its consumption market. In the near future, businesses in the industry will have the opportunity to participate in surveys in the US and Brazil from June 28 to July 8, as well as trade activities in conjunction with the Anuga 2025 international food fair held in Germany and the Netherlands from October 2 to 11. Selected participants will receive financial support from the state to promote exports.
