Pepper prices today, April 18, 2025: Gia Lai sees a slight increase.
Today, April 18th, domestic pepper prices are at 157,000 - 159,000 VND/kg. Gia Lai pepper prices increased slightly by 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday. VPSA is stepping up trade promotion efforts to expand its consumer market in the EU.
Today's pepper prices in the domestic market (April 18, 2025)
Today's pepper prices in some key growing regions remained largely unchanged compared to yesterday. As a result, the average domestic pepper price is between 157,000 VND/kg and 159,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 159,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai increased by 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 157,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Dak Nong remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 159,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is 157,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Dong Nai also remains unchanged from yesterday at 157,000 VND/kg.
In addition, the price of pepper in Binh Phuoc today remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 157,000 VND/kg.
This year's pepper harvest is almost complete nationwide. In Dak Nong, farmers report that the harvest is finished. Dak Lak province, which accounts for about 30% of the country's total pepper production, has also harvested about 80-90% of its planted area. Several other provinces such as Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Dong Nai have also basically completed their harvest season.
In Quang Tri province, the situation is not very promising, with pepper production projected to drop sharply by 60 to 70% due to adverse weather conditions. On average, the province's annual pepper production is around 1,000 tons.
Due to the recent high profits from durian and coffee, many farmers have decided to hold onto their produce after harvesting instead of selling it immediately. This stockpiling has created a supply shortage in the market even though the harvest season has just ended, contributing to expectations of price increases in the near future.
Currently, the pepper market is experiencing a supply shortage. Some believe that pepper prices could easily return to 200,000 VND/kg. During its heyday, pepper was priced at 230,000 VND/kg while gold was only around 35 million VND/ounce, whereas now gold has exceeded 120 million VND/ounce.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) is stepping up trade promotion efforts to expand its consumer market. Upcoming opportunities will include market research in the US and Brazil from June 28th to July 8th, as well as trade activities in conjunction with the Anuga 2025 international food fair held in Germany and the Netherlands from October 2nd to 11th. Selected participants will receive financial support from the government to boost exports.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on April 17th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$7,051/ton. Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also remained stable from yesterday at US$9,634/ton.
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,850 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at US$9,600/ton. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$12,100/ton.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) is 6,800 USD/ton; and the price of 550 gr/l is 6,900 USD/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,800 per ton.
