Monkeys come to their homes, Nghe An residents voluntarily hand them over to forest rangers

Pig-tailed macaques and macaques (Macaca leonina) are endangered and rare animals, listed in group IIB. Recently, a resident in Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province, voluntarily handed over these two monkeys to the forest rangers.

Thanh Chuong Forest Protection Department has just completed the procedures to receive 2 monkeys from Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khanh, residing in Chi Thinh village, Thanh Qua commune, Thanh Chuong district. According to Mr. Khanh, the 2 monkeys came to his garden on their own, and he proactively contacted the authorities to hand them over.

Specifically, the pig-tailed macaque weighed 5 kg, and the mottled macaque weighed 4.8 kg. Both were in stable health condition, with no signs of abnormalities.

Mr. Phan Van Hoang - Head of Thanh Chuong District Forest Protection Department said that after receiving the animals, the unit made a record and followed the correct procedures for handling wild animals according to regulations. The two monkeys were transferred to Pu Mat National Park for rescue, care and release back into the natural environment.
