According to RIA Novosti, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran is ready to sign a nuclear agreement with the United States on an equal basis.

"Regarding negotiations with the United States, within certain limits and in accordance with national interests, we are ready to reach an agreement, but if they are unwilling to sign an agreement with us on an equal basis, we will continue to pursue our own path," the official website of the Iranian president stated on April 21.

Following the second round of talks with the US, Pezeshkian reiterated Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's view that Tehran has a pessimistic and unoptimistic outlook on the negotiations.

The second round of talks between Iran and the US, mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, took place on April 20 in Rome. The third round is scheduled for April 26, and a meeting of expert-level technical teams is expected to take place on April 23 in Oman.

In early March, US President Donald Trump sent a letter to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stating that he wanted to sign a nuclear agreement with Tehran, otherwise he threatened military retaliation. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian noted that his country had refused to negotiate directly with Washington on the nuclear issue.

Regarding the nuclear agreement between the US and Iran, according to former Pentagon adviser Colonel Douglas MacGregor, Russia would not allow a large-scale US attack on Iran to occur without a response.

"Iran is of strategic importance to Russia. That's why Moscow won't stand idly by and do nothing if the U.S. launches a strong attack on Iran," former adviser McGregor warned.

On April 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law ratifying the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran. The corresponding text was posted on the website for the official publication of legal documents.
