North Korea officially confirms sending troops to Russia.
North Korea has officially confirmed that it has sent troops to Russia to participate in the operation to liberate the Kursk region, in accordance with the strategic partnership agreement.
According to RIA Novosti on April 28, North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported that North Korea officially confirmed sending troops to Russia under the strategic partnership agreement.
"Leader Kim Jong-un, based on an analysis and assessment of the current military-political situation, has concluded that the current situation falls within Article 4 of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between North Korea and Russia. On this basis, he has decided to deploy our armed forces to participate in hostile activities and has informed the Russian side of this," the statement said.
According to KCNA, leader Kim Jong-un promised to soon erect a military glory monument in Pyongyang to honor the fallen soldiers as a lasting remembrance of the nation and its people for their sacrifices.
KCNA quoted a document from the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) asserting that the activities of the North Korean military on Russian territory are fully in accordance with international law.
"The military activities of the North Korean armed forces on Russian territory fully comply with all provisions and spirit of the United Nations Charter and other international laws, the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia, and are also an exemplary and excellent example of the most appropriate actions to implement the treaty," the document states.
According to the Central Military Commission of North Korea, "the successful completion of the operation to liberate the Kursk region is not only a victory of justice over injustice, but also a new historical stage demonstrating the unbreakable military partnership and the highest level of strategic alliance and brotherhood between the Korean people and the Russian people."
The North Korean Central Military Commission emphasized that, thanks to the victory over the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region, the "adventures" of the West and Kyiv aimed at disrupting the progress of Russia's special military operation have been thwarted.
The Committee sent its "warmest congratulations" and best wishes to the commanders and soldiers of the combat units who participated in the operation to liberate the Kursk region – those who "defended the honor" of the Korean army, whose immortal achievements have become a "golden page" in the history of the development of relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia.
