According to TASS news agency on May 2, US Vice President JD Vance said that both Russia and Ukraine have presented their proposals in an effort to resolve the conflict, and are currently looking for a "neutral solution".

“What we’ve seen over the last few weeks is each side saying, ‘Here’s our peace proposal.’ The Ukrainians have done it. The Russians have done it. And now I think the question is, can we find some common ground to end this conflict?” – US Vice President JD Vance told Fox News on May 1.

“Of course the Ukrainians are angry. But are we really going to continue to lose thousands of soldiers in exchange for a few miles of territory in one direction or another?” – the US Vice President added.

According to Mr. Vance, Russia and Ukraine know each other's conditions for reaching a peaceful solution and whether or not to reach an agreement depends on Moscow and Kiev.

“They have to take the final steps,” Vice President Vance said, adding that only Moscow and Kiev can resolve the situation.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper O Globo that Moscow and Washington are continuing dialogue to find ways to resolve the situation in Ukraine. The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that Russia hopes that these contacts will bring results acceptable to both sides.

According to Mr. Lavrov, some optimism stems from the fact that US President Donald Trump and his team, unlike the administration of 46th President Joe Biden, "have supplied the Kiev regime with deadly weapons and actively drawn Ukraine into NATO." Mr. Trump is trying to understand "the root causes of the crisis."

Foreign Minister Lavrov added that President Trump has repeatedly stated that if the previous US government had not pulled Ukraine into NATO, there would have been no conflict.
