World gold price today May 6, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 p.m. today, Vietnam time, was 3,270.58 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 105.65 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,140 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 107.37 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 15.32 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices rose to a two-week high on Monday as concerns about US President Donald Trump's plans to impose tariffs boosted demand for the safe-haven metal, while investors awaited the Federal Reserve's policy meeting on Wednesday.

Spot gold prices rose sharply by more than $100 an ounce. US gold futures also rose 1.5% to $3,370.4.

Gold prices surged earlier this week as investors returned to safe-haven assets to hedge against portfolio volatility, fueled by renewed concerns about tariffs from President Donald Trump, according to IG market strategist Yeap Jun Rong.

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he would impose a 100% tariff on foreign-made films, but did not elaborate on how it would be implemented. On Monday, he said he would announce tariffs on pharmaceuticals within two weeks.

The Fed's interest rate decision and Chairman Jerome Powell's remarks on Wednesday are being closely watched for clues on the future direction of interest rates. Since December, the Fed has kept rates in a range of 4.25% to 4.50%.

According to Yeap Jun Rong, if the Fed signals a rate cut, this could further support gold prices, strengthening the long-term bullish momentum. A Reuters report said that while the Fed is certain to keep rates unchanged on Wednesday, this could be the last time the outcome is so clear, as Trump's tariffs are causing a lot of uncertainty about the economic outlook.

Goldman Sachs predicts the Fed will cut interest rates three times, by 0.25 percentage points each in July, September and October, after more data on the labor market and other economic indicators.

Gold, which does not yield interest but is a hedge against political and financial crises, tends to benefit in a low-interest-rate environment. Silver rose 1.5% to $32.98 an ounce, platinum rose 1.4% to $972.25, and palladium edged up 0.5% to $945.25.
