The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army visits and inspects combat readiness at Mat Island.

On May 9th, Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, led a delegation from the General Staff to visit and inspect combat readiness at the Mat Island Combined Battalion (Nghe An Provincial Military Command).

The Mat Island Combined Battalion is one of the strategically important forward positions in the North Central coastal region.

Accompanying the delegation were Major General Le Hong Nhan – Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 4; and Colonel Dinh Bat Van – Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Nghe An Provincial Military Command.

General Huynh Chien Thang and the delegation listened to the commander of Mat Island report on the situation, tasks, training results, discipline, management of the assigned sea and airspace, as well as logistics and technical support under harsh weather conditions and complex terrain.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff commended the spirit of overcoming difficulties, the unwavering will, and the high level of vigilance of the officers and soldiers on duty on the island. He emphasized:Mat Island holds a particularly important strategic position.It serves as a "watchful eye" observing the vast sea area, therefore the garrison stationed there must always maintain a high state of combat readiness, avoiding being caught off guard or surprised in any situation.

The delegation also directly inspected the operational plans, logistical and technical infrastructure, and disaster prevention and search and rescue operations. Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang requested the unit to continue improving the quality of training, mastering weapons and technical equipment, and coordinating closely with forces at sea, contributing to the firm protection of the sovereignty and security of the nation's maritime borders and islands.

The visit and inspection by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army demonstrates the deep concern of the Ministry of National Defense for the forces on the islands, and at the same time encourages officers and soldiers to continue to uphold the tradition of "loyalty, courage, solidarity, discipline, and creativity," and to successfully complete all assigned tasks.
