Actress Mai Châu from the film 'Chị Dậu' has passed away.
Journalist Vu Khanh Linh, granddaughter of Meritorious Artist Mai Chau, said the actress passed away at 3:10 AM on May 24, 2025.
The memorial service for Meritorious Artist Mai Châu will take place from 9:15 AM to 10:30 AM on May 26th at the funeral home of the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Hanoi. The funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on the same day, after which the artist will be cremated at Van Dien Cemetery.
Meritorious Artist Mai Châu, whose real name was Mai Thị Châu, was born on January 10, 1927, and passed away at 3:10 AM on May 24, 2025, due to old age and declining health.
Although she hasn't acted in films for many years, audiences still remember her through classic films of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.
When the Vietnam Film School (now the Hanoi University of Theatre and Film) opened its first acting training course, she and several colleagues participated in the audition and were selected as official actors of the Vietnam Feature Film Studio (now the Vietnam Feature Film Company) from 1959.
