Flash floods and landslides hit many areas in western Nghe An province.

From last night until now, heavy to very heavy rain has fallen in the mountainous districts of Nghe An province. Flash floods and landslides have occurred in many areas, causing damage to people's property.

Initial reports from local areas indicate that, as of early this morning, May 30th, flash floods and landslides have occurred in the districts of Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Que Phong, and others.

In Tuong Duong district, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Head of the District's Agriculture and Environment Department, said that on the night of May 29th, the district experienced heavy to very heavy rain, causing flooding and landslides in many areas. Particularly, flash floods occurred in Nhon Mai and Huu Khuong communes, causing damage to people's property and transportation infrastructure.

"Early this morning, local authorities reported preliminary damage from flash floods. In Huu Khuong commune, two bridges were affected, and two houses collapsed; in Nhon Mai commune, many houses were affected; many roads were damaged by landslides, including the Nhon Mai suspension bridge which was swept away. Currently, local authorities are compiling detailed damage reports to submit to higher levels," Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa informed.

In Ky Son district, heavy rains also caused damage to people's property and transportation infrastructure. Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: "Early this morning, localities have submitted preliminary reports, in which roads leading to Tay Son, Na Loi, Na Ngoi, Huu Kiem... suffered severe landslides; landslides damaged many houses of local people."

In Huu Kiem commune, floodwaters washed away a pedestrian bridge in Dinh Son 1 village. In Bao Thang commune, water levels in streams and creeks rose, and many sections of roads were at risk of landslides.

In Que Phong district, heavy rains have also caused significant damage to people's property and crops. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, local authorities reported preliminary damage from the heavy rains that occurred on the night of May 29th this morning. The main damage was to spring rice crops, which were flooded and buried. The district is currently gathering information from local authorities to prepare a more detailed report.

Currently, heavy rain continues in the mountainous districts of Nghe An province, and local authorities are directing and guiding people to prevent damage caused by floods.
