The 10th grade math entrance exam in Nghe An is highly differentiated, making it difficult to get high scores.
After 120 minutes of testing, at exactly 10:00 a.m. on June 4, Nghe An students finished the Math subject and completed the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. This year's Math exam closely followed the spirit of innovation, increasing practicality to accurately assess students' abilities.
The real exam is more difficult than the practice exam.

Student Nguyen Duc Anh from Dang Thai Mai Secondary School (Vinh City) said: "I think I only got 8 points for this test. I found questions 1 and 2 quite simple, question 3c calculates the value of an expression containing a solution through the Viet formula, although it is a basic question, but I still struggled because my ability is limited. I finished question 4 but it took a lot of time. I finished question 5a but I didn't have time to read the question for question 5b."
Thanh Ha, a student at Dang Thai Mai Secondary School, also shared: "Normally in the mock exam structure, it only takes me 3-5 minutes to solve question 5b, but in the real exam, it took me more than 20 minutes. The reason is that this is usually a question that uses the Cosi inequality to solve, but this time it was about the value domain, so it took me time to determine how to do it."
Talking about this year's exam, many candidates said that the real exam was more difficult than the practice exam, with question 5 being the most difficult, a test that differentiates candidates and is only for truly capable students.
Tran Thi Thao Chi - a student at Doi Cung Secondary School (Vinh City) said that her Math test did not meet her initial expectations and goals. The test was more difficult and longer than the mock test she had done at school before. Questions 1 and 2 were at a basic level, but when she got to question 3b, she was confused and could not think of a solution, so she temporarily skipped it to do the next questions. After that, she was able to do questions 3c, 4a, 4b and 5a. She did not do question 5b because she did not have enough time and it was too difficult. With this result, Thao Chi scored herself about 7.5 points.
At the High School exam siteDo Luong1, this is also a fairly good test site. However, after completing the last exam, unlike the previous two exams, many candidates walked out of the test site in an unhappy mood. Many students said the exam was difficult, especially questions 4c and 5b.
Dang Huu Quang, a student at Vo Thi Sau Secondary School, said he could only do 80% of the test, and he did not know if it was right or wrong. Similarly, Nguyen Phuoc An, although a good student, could only do 90% of the test. Some other students also said that questions 3b, 4b, and 5b were difficult.
Student Dao Van Lam, Xuan Son Secondary School, said in a bad mood: In my class, my friends probably got an average of 5 points.
Through observation, many students left with red eyes because they could not finish the test.
Many candidates did not complete the test.
At the exam site of Thai Hoa High School, candidate Pham Thi Hoa, a student of Nghia My Secondary School (Thai Hoa Town) commented: “This year's Math exam followed the curriculum, mainly revolving around knowledge learned in class and following the spirit of what you learn is what you test. The questions are arranged from easy to advanced. There are questions that help apply Math knowledge to real life. I did over 70%, only the last 2 questions were a bit difficult for candidates so I skipped them.”
At the exam site of May 1 High School (district Nghia Dan)Many candidates left the exam room in a relaxed mood. Nguyen Quynh Anh, a student at Loi Lac Secondary School, shared: “This year’s Math exam generally followed the curriculum. However, the exam was not easy. Question 5 of the geometry section was really difficult. Although the applied math problems were interesting, they could easily cause confusion if the keywords of the problem were not correctly identified. The difficult questions were spread throughout the test and not arranged in order of increasing difficulty. With this math test, many students said they would get 6-7 points.”
Student Le Quang Minh, at High SchoolMr. Son1 (Anh Son district) said: I think this year's Math exam follows the curriculum closely and differentiates students according to their levels. Of the 5 questions, the first 3 are familiar types of questions that we have learned during the review process, so students with average academic ability can do them. From question 4 onwards, the exam requires high application to classify candidates. To do these questions, students must have a firm grasp of the knowledge. I am not too worried about the results of Math, because this is my strong subject. I think I can get over 8 points.
Student Nguyen Thi Hang at the examination council of Anh Son 2 High School shared: I see that we have become familiar with the structure of the exam through the mock exams at school. In the exam, I see that question 4 begins to be classified, only question 4c in geometry and 5b can be done by excellent students. I am confident that I will get over 7 points in Math.
In the districtCon Cuong, most students left the exam room feeling quite comfortable because they had completed the final exam of the 10th grade entrance exam. Many candidates said that this year's exam had a reasonable structure, closely following the secondary school program, but still ensuring clear classification, however, it was difficult to get high scores.
Vy Thi Huong – a candidate taking the exam at Con Cuong High School shared: I found the exam quite long. I only hope to get an average score on this exam.
Leaving the exam site of Dang Thuc Hua High School (Thanh Chuong District), Nguyen Quang Thai - a 9th grade student at Thanh Khe Secondary School said: The math exam this morning was moderately difficult for me. Out of 5 questions, I finished 4, and the last question was the most difficult, I have not finished part 5b. I predict that my math test will get 7 points. The total of the 3 subjects will probably be around 18 points. I hope to pass the 10th grade.
Meanwhile, Dang Tran Cam Ly - a 9A student at Thanh Ha Secondary School shared: I found this morning's Math test quite close to the curriculum, especially close to the review content. However, I have not finished the test, question 4 part c and question 5 part b are left unfinished. I expect my test score to be around 7 points, I hope to pass Dang Thuc Hua High School.
Math questions are highly applicable and differentiate students.
Commenting on the Math exam, teacher Tran Son Hong - Dang Thai Mai Secondary School (Vinh City) said: The exam was structured according to Official Dispatch No. 162/SGD&DT-DGTrH dated January 23, 2025 of the Department of Education and Training on announcing the exam structure and reference questions for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
In which, the exam reflects the spirit of program innovation, innovation in testing and assessment forms, increasing practicality; assessing students' specific Math competencies and other general competencies.
In the first year of testing according to the 2018 General Education Program, the proposal meets the requirements of program innovation, is not unfamiliar to teachers and students, and helps orient teaching and learning in the following years.
The good questions are in practical math problems, there are up to 6 practical math problems in three streams of knowledge: Algebra - Geometry - Probability and Statistics, demonstrating the applicability of mathematics, requiring students to have real practical understanding. Lesson 5b shows the new points of the questions compared to previous years.
I think this is a highly classified question, students at the Pass level can get 6.5 points; students at the Fair level can get 8.5 points; to get above 8.5 points - especially from 9.5 points and above, students must have real ability. According to the report of the Department of Education and Training, in the third exam, the whole province had 39,133 candidates registered to take the exam. The number of absent candidates was 42. In Yen Thanh district, there was 1 candidate who violated the exam regulations (Phan Thuc Truc High School Examination Council) because the candidate brought a phone into the exam area.
