In Vietnam, pepper prices have also recorded a decline for three consecutive weeks. The main reason is the weakening demand from the Middle East, the US, and China, while global inventories have increased. Tensions in the Middle East, particularly the conflict between Iran and Israel, have significantly impacted the progress of export orders in the region.

Marcellus Giovanni, CEO of Brazspice Spices International, noted that domestic pepper prices in Vietnam have fallen much more sharply than anticipated due to geopolitical factors. Additionally, tensions between Cambodia and Thailand have led to an influx of Cambodian pepper into the Vietnamese market, further increasing supply pressure.

The pepper market is expected to see positive developments in the third and fourth quarters as international tensions ease. However, new supply will not arrive until the 2026 harvest. Therefore, the current market downturn is mainly short-term, while long-term fundamentals remain relatively stable. Many long-term export contracts for the 2025-2026 period have already begun to be signed.

The global pepper market is trending downwards, according to the latest report from the International Pepper Association (IPC). Over the past week, pepper prices in many countries have fallen due to the impact of exchange rates, abundant supply, and weak demand from major markets.

In India, the 1% drop in the Rupee against the USD has led to a decline in both domestic and export pepper prices. In Sri Lanka, pepper prices have fallen for three consecutive weeks as the country enters its new harvest season, increasing supply on the market.

Meanwhile, prices of black pepper from Brazil and Cambodia, and white pepper from China, all recorded a downward trend, with Brazil being particularly affected by expectations of increased production.

Faced with unfavorable conditions, Brazilian exporters have decided to temporarily suspend sales and hold onto inventory while awaiting market recovery. Although prices are falling, demand has increased by 30-50% compared to April and May, indicating positive signs of potential purchasing power.
