Following reciprocal tariff negotiations, how many items imported from the US will have a 0% tariff?
Vietnam's commitment to granting preferential market access to US goods through a 0% import tariff policy on many product groups is creating significant fluctuations in the domestic market.
Items whose taxes have been reduced to 0%
Wood and wood products
Going back a few months, before the US administration announced new retaliatory tariffs against other countries on April 2nd, on March 31st, the Government issued Decree 73/2025 amending and supplementing the preferential import tax rates for a number of goods.
Specifically, import duties on wood and wood products such as clothes hangers, thread spools, chairs and chair parts, wooden furniture, etc., have been reduced from 20-25% to a uniform rate of 0%. The decree takes effect immediately on March 31st.

Automotive industry
The automotive industry is predicted to be the most competitive sector due to the new preferential policies. The fact that large-displacement American cars can access the Vietnamese market with a 0% preferential tax rate will create a significant competitive advantage for brands like Tesla, Ford, and Chevrolet.

In particular, Tesla electric vehicles and other American electric vehicle brands like Rivian will be significantly more competitively priced than before.
Other items are likely to be subject to a 0% tax rate.
Consumer technology and electronics
In the technology and consumer electronics sector, the United States has a significant advantage with high-end products such as chips, servers, and specialized computers from Apple, HP, and Dell. Exempting import duties will help Vietnamese consumers access advanced technology products at more reasonable prices.
However, this also creates challenges for Vietnamese businesses operating in the OEM or electronics assembly sector. The fact that genuine American goods can enter the market at competitive prices will reduce demand for domestically assembled products.
Agriculture and food processing
The United States is an agricultural powerhouse with advanced technology and large-scale production. Products such as frozen beef and chicken, corn, soybeans, dairy, and processed foods from the US can be boosted in the Vietnamese market with tax advantages.
Retail and e-commerce
Retail giants like Amazon and Walmart, along with American consumer goods suppliers, can penetrate deeper into Vietnam's distribution chain now that tariff barriers have been removed.
Despite creating numerous challenges, the 0% tax incentive policy also brings significant positive impacts. Vietnamese consumers will have more high-quality choices at more reasonable prices. This will boost living standards and create positive pressure on domestic businesses to improve their products.
Access to advanced technology from the US will also help Vietnam transfer technology, improve production capacity, and increase added value for domestic industries. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to learn and develop high-tech industries.
