During and after storms, floods, and inundation, many microorganisms, dust, garbage, and waste will flow into many places, polluting the environment and potentially posing many risks of disease. Furthermore, floods and inundation are favorable conditions for bacteria, viruses, and disease vectors to grow and cause disease in humans.

To proactively prevent and combat diseases that are at risk of occurring during and after floods, storms, and floods, Nghe An Center for Disease Control recommends:
Ensure safe and hygienic food selection and preparation, eat cooked food and boiled water. Absolutely do not use dead livestock or poultry as food or food preparation. For areas affected by floods and landslides, have a plan to ensure the supply of safe food, food, and drinking water. Encourage people to use ready-to-eat, ready-to-eat foods such as dry food, instant noodles, and bottled water.

Wash your hands regularly with soap before and after preparing food, before eating and after using the toilet. Practice daily personal hygiene, wash your feet and dry between your toes after contact with floodwater or contaminated water. Follow the principle of cleaning as the water recedes, collecting and disposing of dead animals and poultry according to the instructions of health workers.
In case water sources such as wells and open wells are flooded, they must be filtered and disinfected before use. Clean water tanks, wells, water containers and use chemicals to disinfect drinking water and domestic water according to the instructions of medical staff.

Kill larvae and mosquitoes. If you suspect you have been infected, seek medical attention at the nearest medical facility.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF SOME COMMON DISEASES DURING THE RAINY AND FLOOD SEASON
1. Prevention and control of diseases transmitted through the digestive tract (acute diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, hepatitis A).
- Ensure drinking water treatment, environmental sanitation and personal hygiene. Follow the principle of "Eat cooked food, drink boiled water" to ensure food safety and hygiene.
- Ensure enough clean water for drinking and daily activities. Wash hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet.
- Properly handle feces, waste, garbage and dead animals.
- Take or inject vaccines when indicated for vaccine-preventable diseases.
- When there are signs of suspected infection, you need to go to the nearest medical facility for examination and treatment.
2. Prevention and control of respiratory diseases (colds, flu, sore throat, respiratory tract infections)
- Keep warm in cold weather, especially for children and the elderly.
- Limit contact with people showing signs of flu or respiratory infections.
- Ensure adequate nutrition.
- When there are signs of suspected infection, you need to go to the nearest medical facility for examination and treatment.
3. Prevention and control of pink eye
- Do not wash your face or bathe with dirty water.
- Do not let children bathe or play with dirty water.
- Wash your hands with soap and clean water.
- Do not share towels and wash basins with people who have pink eye.
- Use common eye drops for all people at risk of exposure to dirty water.
- Pay attention to kill flies because flies transmit pink eye from sick people to healthy people.
4. Prevention and control of skin diseases (foot and hand fungus and some skin infections)
- Do not bathe or wash clothes with dirty water. If you do not have disinfected well water, you must add alum or filter the water with sand.
- Do not wear wet clothes.
- Do not swim, bathe or play in flooded water because the water is very dirty. In addition to causing skin diseases, it can also cause digestive diseases due to swallowing dirty water.
- Avoid wading in dirty, stagnant water. If you must wade in dirty water, immediately rinse with clean water and dry, especially between fingers and toes.
5. Prevention and control of dengue fever
- Sleep under mosquito nets and wear long clothes to prevent mosquito bites even during the day.
- Cover all water containers tightly to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.
- Remove waste such as bottles, jars, car tires, etc. or natural water holes to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.
- Spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes in high-risk areas or areas with dengue fever outbreaks.
- When you have a fever, go to a medical facility immediately for examination and treatment advice. Do not self-treat at home.
