3 houses alone

After retirement, People's Artist Minh Hang has 3 places to return to: a house given by her mother on Bui Xuong Trach Street, a house on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street and a farm of about 20,000 square meters in Hoai Duc (Hanoi). People's Artist Minh Hang spends most of her time on the farm because there are many trees, chickens, dogs and more than 20 cats - close friends who help her ease the sadness of not having relatives by her side.

"People are often afraid of loneliness. But for me, after many events, I learned to face it. Living alone is not a misfortune if you know how to take care of yourself and love every peaceful moment around you," she once confided.

2021 is a painful milestone for People's Artist Minh Hang. In less than 2 months, she lost two of her most beloved people: her husband - Dr. Nguyen Huy Tue passed away due to a serious illness, followed shortly after by her biological father - Colonel, Doctor Nguyen Nhu Nga.

The successive deaths nearly broke her. The house was empty, without her children by her side, and she spent a long time in silence. On social media, she kept her profile picture black for months as a way to remember her loved ones.

"I used to think I couldn't overcome it. But then I realized that no one could save me but myself," People's Artist Minh Hang once shared with VietNamNet reporter.

Although she retired at the end of 2016, People's Artist Minh Hang still maintains her love for the stage. She once jokingly said that "retirement is just a formality" because if the Youth Theater has a suitable role, she is still ready to return.

After being awarded the title of People's Artist in 2019, she still participates in TV dramas, sitcoms, and game shows, although less than before. "I am selective, only accepting roles that move me. I don't need many more, just deep and real," the artist affirmed.

Choose a peaceful life

Not noisy, not ostentatious, People's Artist Minh Hang chooses a "quiet" but not "reclusive" way of life.

She had taken the initiative to prepare her own grave, choosing a resting place in a quiet cemetery in Hoa Binh. To her, death is no longer scary when the living know how to let go and are ready to face it.

Choosing not to have children at a young age, People's Artist Minh Hang does not hide the fact that she has been subjected to many scrutiny. But she always believes that it was the right choice for someone who pursues art to the end.

"Many people ask me if I am lonely? I answer yes. But I have no regrets. No one in this life has everything. I have a career, memorable roles, and a loving audience, that's enough," she confided.

Although sometimes she still feels sad when she is alone in the middle of a large garden, People's Artist Minh Hang has never let loneliness turn into sadness. She turns it into motivation to live deeply, live carefully, and live kindly to herself.

She said: "I don't want to run after anything anymore. No crowds, no glory, no competition, now is the time to live for myself, live slowly, live deeply."
