With their intelligence and desire to contribute, the people of Nghe An have always been unafraid of hardship and difficulty, leaving their villages to venture out in all directions to establish themselves and their careers, asserting their position in society. And in reality, in any era, the people of Nghe An have produced talented individuals and renowned figures who have brought glory to their homeland.
It's difficult to list all the famous people from Nghe An. Generation after generation, not only in the past, during historical and revolutionary periods, but also today, many people from Nghe An have achieved success, leaving a significant mark in all fields of life and making worthy contributions to the development of their homeland and country.
People from Nghe An have long been proud of their tradition of studiousness, academic excellence, and unwavering resilience in overcoming difficulties and striving for success in all circumstances. But only by going and meeting individual people can one truly appreciate their unique qualities. Not only are they intelligent, quick-witted, and adaptable to life's changes, but even after many years away from home, people from Nghe An retain their distinctive character and culture. Some have left their hometown 40-50 years ago, yet their speech and daily routines still retain the essence of Nghe An. They pass these traditions on to their descendants like an inexhaustible source.
This explains why the Nghe An community is growing larger and larger, forming cultural spaces imbued with the spirit of their homeland throughout the country, and even in distant lands. Wherever there are people from Nghe An, there is the deep, resonant accent, the sweet and profound folk songs, and moonlit nights with fragrant green tea – all cherished as a part of their homeland.
Despite being away from their homeland for nearly several decades, they still retain the "Nghe An accent" in their speech and daily lives. As proudly shared by Ms. Le Thi Suong, originally from Nghe An but now living in Dak Lak: "I never forget my mother tongue. Whether my family and neighbors are originally from Nghe An or not, we still maintain our accent and cultural identity. In my family, both my children and now my grandchildren speak with the distinctive Nghe An accent. And I am proud of that…"
Many people still think that Hanoi – the heart of the country – is the hub for politicians from Nghe An; the vibrant Ho Chi Minh City is the destination for Nghe An businesspeople; and the Central Highlands, after numerous waves of economic migration, is home only to hardworking farmers and workers who have made their fortunes on the vast hills of coffee, rubber, and durian plantations. But the reality is quite different.
"People from Nghe An in Everywhere" will give us a broader picture: People from Nghe An are not just skilled in one field; they are present and leave their mark in every aspect of social life. In the Central Highlands, we encounter not only large farm owners and farmers aspiring to get rich, but also people with new ways of thinking and different visions.
In Ho Chi Minh City – a bustling metropolis where "even walking requires faster speed than running" – you'll be amazed to see the 80s and 90s generations from Nghe An, with their intelligence and ambition, rising strongly and achieving remarkable success. They are not only owners of European-style hotel chains and nationwide fashion brands, but also young associate professors and doctors, and renowned artists, contributing to shaping the cultural and intellectual landscape.
In a story filled with emotion, director Dung Nghe – a talented television director living and working in Ho Chi Minh City – shared: “Living far from home, we long to hear the distinct Nghe An accent. Therefore, when we have the opportunity to interact and connect, we cherish it greatly. And especially, 'People from Nghe An Around the World' has helped me meet talented people from my homeland, allowing us to connect, support each other's development in this new land, and at the same time alleviate our homesickness…”
Starting with this issue, we will publish one article per week for the "People of Nghe An Around the World" section in Nghe An Weekend. Each article is not just a story, but also a bridge to spread the image of the people of Nghe An, the rich culture and history of our homeland to friends both domestically and internationally. Through this, we aim to awaken pride in every person from Nghe An, cultivate love and a deep connection to their homeland, and create strong bonds between Nghe An communities across the country. This will serve as a foundation for them to learn, share, support each other, and contribute even more to the development of their province.
