What will Trump and Putin talk about at the summit in Alaska?
At the upcoming summit in Alaska, President Donald Trump and his counterpart Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss arms control and cooperation in the Arctic.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump may discuss arms control issues at a meeting in Alaska, Dmitry Suslov, deputy director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics of the National Research University, an expert of the Valdai Club, said in an interview with RIA Novosti on August 10.
“The two leaders will probably talk about arms control issues. It is no coincidence that Russia recently lifted restrictions on the ban on the proliferation of medium and short-range nuclear weapons. This also forms the summit agenda. Economic relations between Russia and the United States will also be mentioned,” Suslov said.
According to experts of the Valdai club, in addition to the issue of the conflict in Ukraine, the two leaders of Russia and the US will discuss cooperation in the Arctic.
“The favorable location in Alaska emphasizes the Arctic agenda. The Arctic is considered one of the most central areas of Russian-American competition, as well as an area with prospects for cooperation, so the Arctic topic will certainly be mentioned,” Suslov added.
The expert noted that the choice of Alaska as the meeting place is intended to symbolize the fact that the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is achieved through bilateral negotiations between Russia and the United States without the participation of Ukraine and Europe. Kiev and Brussels will be informed by Moscow about the results of these negotiations, but initially will not take into account their views.
Meanwhile, commenting on Ukraine's move, Mr. Zoltan Koshkovich, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, said that Kiev will try by all means to prevent the meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
This analyst also believes that Ukraine will be supported by European allies in this.
