At approximately 3:30 PM on August 17th, a kiosk in the meat trading area at the back entrance of Vinh wholesale market suddenly caught fire. By over 4 PM, the fire was completely extinguished. Thanks to the heavy rain, the spread of the flames was limited, significantly minimizing damage. The incident did not affect people's lives and did not cause significant damage to property in the market.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Thai Ba Nghia – representative of the Vinh Wholesale Market Management Board – said: “Fortunately, thanks to the proactive approach and high vigilance of the traders and the authorities, the fire was brought under control in time, preventing it from spreading to neighboring stalls.”
According to Mr. Nghia, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it may have been due to an electrical short circuit in the heavy rain that fell all day. In addition, the habit of some vendors using straw to cook and grill food at the market also poses a high risk, causing the fire to spread more quickly.

Reportedly, following the incident, the Vinh Wholesale Market Management Board announced that it will conduct a thorough review of all old stalls, especially those near the back gate, where animal meat is frequently sold and a lot of straw is used. They will also tighten fire prevention and control measures. Efforts to educate and remind traders to strictly comply with regulations on electrical safety and to absolutely not use flammable materials for cooking in the market will also be intensified.
