Given the complex developments of Typhoon No. 5, border guard stations in Nghe An province have implemented a comprehensive set of measures to prevent and mitigate the effects of the storm.

In An Chau commune (formerly Dien Chau district), many officers and soldiers of the Dien Trung Border Guard Task Force ( thuộc Dien Thanh Border Guard Station) worked with local people to urgently dismantle net houses and reinforce shrimp pond embankments. Nets, bamboo stakes, and temporary shelters were removed and gathered in a safe place.

"The family owns 7,000 square meters."2"If the net houses are left as they are, they can be blown down by strong winds during storms, causing property damage and endangering people. Dismantling such a large area of netting requires many people. With the help of the soldiers, the work is completed much faster," said Mr. Nguyen Cuong, a shrimp farmer in An Chau commune.

In addition to assisting with dismantling, border guards also directly inspect shrimp ponds, guide people to harvest shrimp that have reached marketable size early, and assign personnel to be on duty 24/7 in critical areas.

Major Chu Van Thi, head of the Dien Trung Border Guard Task Force, said: “We consider assisting the people in storm prevention and mitigation as an urgent task. Since this morning (August 24th), the team has sent six officers and soldiers directly to the grassroots level to help people dismantle shrimp farming nets and reinforce their houses. Each officer and soldier has demonstrated a high sense of responsibility, ready to stand side-by-side with the people to minimize damage caused by the storm.”

At other vegetable greenhouses in coastal communes of Nghe An province, farmers are urgently driving stakes and using ropes to secure the corners.

Mr. Hoang Thang, head of Hamlet 5, An Chau commune, said: "From early morning, the Hamlet Committee broadcast announcements about Typhoon No. 5 on the hamlet's loudspeaker, urging households to proactively reinforce their houses; for poultry farms, use sandbags on the roofs; for greenhouses growing vegetables, since the netting cannot be removed, use iron poles, bamboo... driven deep into the ground, and tie them with ropes, especially at the corners."
