Fishing village near the Lam River urgently relocated to avoid Typhoon No. 5.

Residents of Hoa Lam fishing village, Truong Vinh ward (Nghe An province) proactively pulled their boats ashore and reinforced their houses. The authorities helped relocate households, especially the elderly and children, to safe places before typhoon No. 5 made landfall.

(Photo: Hoai Thu)According to Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet, Secretary of the Thuan Hoa Block Party Branch, the Hoa Lam residential cluster was formerly Hoa Lam hamlet in Hung Hoa commune (old). After the merger of the commune-level administrative units, Hoa Lam hamlet became a residential cluster of Thuan Hoa block, Truong Vinh ward. This cluster has more than 60 households who have been making a living from fishing along the Lam River for generations. Following directives from higher authorities regarding the prevention and control of Typhoon No. 5, the local government is currently prioritizing the relocation of the elderly and children to the ward's health station. Youth groups remain and are mobilized to assist the local authorities in typhoon prevention and control, and reinforcing houses. "Ward officials and neighborhood officials remind us regularly. We also recognize the seriousness of the storm, so we are rushing to bring our boats ashore.
