World gold price this afternoon September 16, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 3:00 p.m. on September 16, Vietnam time, was 3,688.25 USD/ounce. This afternoon's gold price increased by 56.11 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,468 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 117.8 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the gold bar price is 14.5 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
The main reason for the increase in domestic gold prices is that world gold prices are also increasing sharply. This afternoon, the world gold price increased by more than 50 USD compared to the previous one, approaching the 3700 USD/Ounce mark.
After a period of continuous price decline, this morning the domestic gold price has turned around and increased strongly again. This increase is more evident in the free gold market.
Specifically, at some small gold shops in Ho Chi Minh City, the buying price of SJC gold bars has been adjusted to 132 million VND/tael, while the selling price is 134 million VND/tael.
Despite the increase, compared to the peak of 143.5 million VND/tael recorded last week, the free market gold price is still nearly 10 million VND lower. Currently, the price of SJC gold bars on the free market and the listed price at major gold companies has a difference of about 2 million VND.
In that context, the Government has just held a thematic meeting on law-making. Here, a notable content related to the draft revised Law on Personal Income Tax. The Government proposed to clearly stipulate that income from gold trading will be subject to tax.
The aim of this proposal is to increase market transparency and limit gold speculation. The Government has assigned the Ministry of Finance and the State Bank to coordinate to unify and include this content in the draft law.
Tax expert Nguyen Ngoc Tu, a lecturer at the Hanoi University of Business and Technology, has made a specific proposal. He believes that a 1.5% tax rate should be applied to income from gold trading.
For example, if a person sells gold for 128 million VND/tael, the tax payable will be about 1.9 million VND. According to this calculation, the more transactions, the larger the tax payable, regardless of whether the person makes a profit or a loss. This will force speculators who buy and sell gold for quick profits to think more carefully.
Mr. Tu also recommended that the tax should only be applied to transactions of one tael of gold or more. Regarding the implementation time, the expert emphasized that it should be applied this year, to quickly stabilize the gold market, narrow the gap between domestic and world gold prices, and at the same time minimize speculative activities.
