Suzuki Fronx GLX Plus Review: Is the technology enough to justify the price?

CTVXOctober 18, 2025 06:37

The Suzuki Fronx enters the A-segment SUV market with a 1.5L mild-hybrid configuration, highlighted by its ADAS package, HUD, and 360-degree camera on the GLX Plus version. However, its high price, approaching that of a B-segment SUV, raises questions about its value proposition compared to the Toyota Raize, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue.

The Suzuki Fronx has just launched in the Vietnamese market with three versions: GL, GLX, and GLX Plus, priced from 520–649 million VND. In the context of an increasingly competitive A-segment SUV market, the Fronx chooses a different path: focusing on a coupe-SUV hybrid design and emphasizing active safety technology in the higher-end versions.

This review focuses on the GLX Plus – the top-of-the-line version – while also comparing the GL and GLX to clarify the "technology or space/price" dilemma when compared to the Toyota Raize, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue.

The coupe-like styling sets it apart.

Instead of the purely practical boxy shape of the Toyota Raize or the muscular look of the Kia Sonet/Hyundai Venue, the Fronx impresses with its coupe-SUV hybrid style – a sloping roofline and a more seamless rear end. The LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and horizontal LED taillights create a modern visual appeal, while the wheel arch trims and 16-inch wheels add a robust touch.

The advantages in terms of brand recognition are clear: in the city, the Fronx looks youthful and sleek; from a rear diagonal view, the sloping roofline sets it apart from the rest of the segment.

A youthful cabin design comes at the cost of some space.

The dashboard layout is reminiscent of the Suzuki Swift: clean lines, an intuitive and practical interface. The materials, color scheme, and placement of function buttons prioritize ease of daily operation. In the GLX Plus version, the "technological" feel is evident through the head-up display (HUD) projecting information onto the windshield – a rare feature at this price point.

In return, the coupe-style roofline affects rear headroom compared to boxy rivals like the Raize/Sonet. The 304-liter trunk is also smaller than the Sonet (392 liters) and Raize (369 liters), meaning its versatility for families with a lot of luggage will be more limited.

Key parameters and operating instructions

Version Engine Power Gear Notable equipment
GL1.5L gasoline103 horsepower4-speed automatic
GLXMild-hybrid 1.5L99 horsepower6-speed automatic
GLX PlusMild-hybrid 1.5L99 horsepower6-speed automaticHUD, ADAS (automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist), 360-degree camera.

Expected experience

The GL's 1.5L 103 hp engine, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, promises easy handling in urban environments, responsive acceleration at low speeds, and simple operation. Meanwhile, the two 1.5L mild-hybrid (99 hp) versions, equipped with a 6-speed transmission, aim for smoothness and fuel efficiency – suitable for consistent driving habits in the city.

Compared to the 1.0L turbocharged engine in the Toyota Raize/Hyundai Venue, the Fronx will be less responsive during high-speed acceleration or overtaking. However, its smooth, effortless operation and optimized fuel consumption are typically strengths of non-turbocharged/mild-hybrid configurations.

Safety and supporting technology

The highlight of the GLX Plus lies in its ADAS active safety package, which includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist. A 360-degree camera assists with maneuvering and parking in tight spaces; while the HUD (Head-Up Display) allows the driver to monitor speed and provides warnings within their line of sight, reducing distractions. These features are not found in all B-segment SUVs in this price range.

For GL/GLX models, a detailed safety list is not provided in the source information; buyers should check the dealer's equipment sheet to match their needs.

Pricing and positioning: choosing between a "technologically advanced A-SUV" or a "spacious B-SUV"

Fronx prices range: GL 520 million VND, GLX 599 million VND, GLX Plus 649 million VND. Compared to the Raize (from 510 million VND), Sonet (from 539 million VND), and Venue (from 499 million VND), the GL/GLX versions show better competitiveness thanks to their different designs and smart layout. However, the GLX Plus is closer in price to standard B-segment SUVs such as the Mitsubishi Xforce GLX (from 599 million VND), Hyundai Creta Standard (from 599 million VND), KIA Seltos 1.5L AT (599 million VND), or Mazda CX-3 Deluxe (579 million VND) – models that are generally larger and more spacious.

For younger users who value unique styling, technological experiences, and fuel efficiency, the Fronx – especially the GLX Plus – offers distinct value. Conversely, if family space and pure practicality are prioritized, standard B-SUV options will be more suitable within the same price range.

Conclude

  • Strengths: Distinctive coupe-style design; active safety features and HUD on the GLX Plus version are superior in its segment; smooth and fuel-efficient driving feel (mild-hybrid).
  • Weaknesses: Limited rear headroom and a 304-liter trunk capacity compared to competitors; the GLX Plus version is priced close to a B-SUV; acceleration/top-level performance is less advantageous compared to the 1.0L turbocharged engines of some competitors.
  • Suitable for: Users who prioritize style, safe technology, and smooth everyday use; willing to compromise on space.
