USD exchange rate developments in the international market
In the US market, the DXY index – a measure of the USD exchange rate fluctuations against 6 major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) increased by 0.38%, reaching 98.96 points. The USD was supported when investors sought safe assets amid global instability.
The Japanese yen fell to a one-week low as Sanae Takaichi was elected as Japan’s prime minister. The yen fell 0.76% to 151.895 yen per dollar, its biggest one-day drop in two weeks, underpinning the strength of the dollar.
In the international market, major currencies traded in a narrow range. The euro fell 0.3% to $1.161, despite a more stable political situation in France. The pound also weakened against the dollar after the UK announced the highest increase in public debt since the pandemic.
Investor sentiment improved somewhat when US President Donald Trump expressed hope of reaching a trade deal with China. However, the USD exchange rate still plays a leading role in the market as money continues to flow to safe assets.
Analysts predict that the USD exchange rate may maintain an upward trend in the short term, especially when the Yen weakens and the EUR is under pressure.
Domestically, the stability of the central exchange rate helps to reduce the impact of external fluctuations, but the free market still reacts quickly to international developments.
