Indonesia U17 eliminated despite historic victory.
Despite beating Honduras 2-1 to achieve a World Cup milestone, the Indonesian U17 team was still eliminated when the remaining groups concluded; the final third spot went to Mexico thanks to fair-play points.
Indonesia's U17 team has been officially eliminated from the group stage of the 2025 U17 World Cup despite a 2-1 victory over Honduras in the final match of Group H. Their chances of advancing as one of the 8 best third-placed teams out of 12 have ended, as the results in Groups K, J, I, and L were unfavorable, and the last spot went to Mexico thanks to fair-play points.
Fair play will decide the final third ticket.
Among the third-placed teams, the Indonesian U17 team finished below Mexico. The race for the final spot was then between Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Despite having the same number of points, goal difference, and productivity, Mexico ranked higher due to fair-play points: -7 compared to Saudi Arabia's -13. This result finalized the 32 teams that qualified for the Round of 32, meaning the Indonesian U17 team could not be among the 8 best third-placed teams out of 12.
The sequence of events in the groups: a harsh domino effect.
- Bảng I: CH Séc chỉ thua Hoa Kỳ 0-1, khiến chỉ số phụ không đủ thay đổi tương quan.
- Bảng L: Ả Rập Xê Út thua Mali 0-2; sau tính điểm fair-play, Mexico giành suất thứ ba cuối cùng.
| Trận then chốt | Score | Hệ quả trong cuộc đua đội thứ ba |
|---|---|---|
| Uganda - Pháp (Bảng K) | 1-0 | Thu hẹp cửa cho các đội chờ vé vớt |
| Paraguay - Ireland (Bảng J) | 0-0 | Maintaining the balance of power is disadvantageous for Indonesia. |
| Czech Republic - United States (Table I) | 0-1 | Do not create spikes in sub-indexes. |
| Saudi Arabia - Mali (Group L) | 0-2 | Fair play puts Mexico above Saudi Arabia. |
A historic victory, but not enough.
Earlier, the Indonesian U17 team defeated Honduras 2-1 in the final match of Group H. This was the first victory in the history of Indonesian football at a World Cup. However, in the tournament format requiring close competition among third-placed teams, the results in other groups did not open a path to the round of 32 for Nova Arianto's team.
32 teams will advance to the Round of 32 of the 2025 U17 World Cup.
