Daniel Munoz publicly expresses his dream of playing for Manchester United.
The Crystal Palace right-back admitted Manchester United are among the clubs he dreams of playing for, but insisted he hasn't received any contact; he will join Palace in January 2024, on a contract until summer 2027.
Daniel Munoz publicly listed Manchester United as one of his "dream clubs," a statement that immediately heated up the transfer market. However, the Crystal Palace right-back insisted he hasn't received any contact and is currently focused on Palace and the Colombian national team.
Making attention-grabbing statements about MU, he still affirms his focus on Palace.
Speaking to Colombian media ahead of the friendly match against New Zealand in Florida, Munoz said (quoted from Metro):
“All I hear outside, the rumors about this club or that club… If you ask me, for me it would be a dream – to play for one of those teams. Whether it’s Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid or Manchester United, I’m aiming for it. I work every day so that one day I can attract their attention, because that’s my dream.”
He simultaneously denied receiving any offers: “The truth is I’m just focused on my club, trying to do a good job at Crystal Palace. I don’t pay much attention to what’s being talked about on social media. I have no information that any of those clubs are interested in me. Right now, my focus is on Crystal Palace and the national team.”
Crystal Palace's two-way right-back
Munoz joined Crystal Palace from Genk in January 2024 for a fee of £6.8 million. In less than two years, he became a crucial link at Selhurst Park thanks to his strong attacking runs down the wing, excellent physical fitness, and tenacious playing style.
Since arriving at Palace, Munoz has played 81 games, scoring 8 goals and providing 14 assists – very impressive numbers for a defender. This season, he has featured in 19 games, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists. The English press has repeatedly described Munoz as "a true leader" in the dressing room, even though he doesn't wear the captain's armband.
Impact on Manchester United's plans
Munoz's consistent form makes him a strong contender for big clubs. With Manchester United looking to add depth to their defense under Ruben Amorim, Munoz has emerged as a potential option. MU's current right-back lineup includes Amad Diallo, Mazraoui, and occasionally Dalot, but their consistency is lacking.
Although Munoz insists he has "not received any contact," his inclusion of Manchester United among his dream clubs is certainly a detail noted by the leadership at Old Trafford. If MU wants to upgrade their right flank, a player with Premier League experience like Munoz is a worthwhile option to consider.
Age 29: an asset or a barrier?
Munoz will turn 30 next May. As a right-back, this is still considered a prime period in terms of both physical fitness and tactical awareness. His contract with Crystal Palace runs until summer 2027, meaning Palace are not under pressure to sell. However, if Munoz wants a bigger challenge, Palace will find it difficult to keep him at all costs. With a relatively low transfer fee and proven form in the Premier League, he could be a bargain in the upcoming transfer window.
