On November 14, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order exempting many imported goods such as beef, tomatoes, coffee and bananas from reciprocal tariffs. These are groups of goods that have been subject to widespread tariffs since the beginning of 2025. The White House said the order is aimed at addressing concerns of Americans about rising food prices.
The exemption, which took effect retroactively at midnight on November 13, marks a major shift in Mr. Trump’s stance on the impact of the tariffs. The move comes after Democrats made strong gains in elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City on November 4, showing that the cost of living is a concern for voters.
According to VNA, President Trump has recently focused on the message of reducing the burden of spending on people and said that the increased costs are due to policies under Joe Biden. American consumers are still under pressure from high food prices, and economists warn that import tariffs could cause prices to continue to rise as businesses pass the costs on to buyers.
The November 14 order also includes framework trade agreements that will eliminate tariffs on imports from Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, and El Salvador once they are finalized. Any refunds will be processed through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) process.
Update world coffee prices
On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures contract for January 2026 delivery closed on November 15 at $4,249/ton, down 2.74% ($120/ton) compared to yesterday. The contract for March 2026 delivery fell 2.77% ($118/ton) to $4,128/ton.

Similarly, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in December 2025 on the New York Stock Exchange decreased by 0.46% (1.9 US cents/pound) yesterday to 399.8 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in March 2026 decreased by 0.06% (0.25 US cents/pound) to 374 US cents/pound.

The world coffee market continued to decline in the latest session. In London, the price of Robusta futures for November 2025 fell by 120 USD/ton to 4,249 USD/ton, and for January 2026 also fell by 120 USD/ton to 4,223 USD/ton. On the New York floor, Arabica for December 2025 fell by 1.9 cents/lb to 399.8 cents/lb and for March 2026 fell by 0.25 cents/lb to 374 cents/lb.
The decline is believed to have been driven by news that the US has reached a number of new trade agreements under President Donald Trump, which are aimed at helping Americans buy bananas, coffee and chocolate at lower prices because these three items are not produced in large quantities in the country.
The news sent both exchanges into the red, with Robusta falling more than Arabica. Robusta is also under pressure from the ongoing harvest in Vietnam, the world’s largest source of this type of coffee.
The US is currently the world’s largest coffee importer, with a total value of about $9 billion in 2024. In terms of value, Brazil is the main supplier, while Vietnam ranks eighth with $364 million. In terms of volume, Vietnam ranks third among countries supplying coffee to the US market.
