Russia abstained from voting on the US resolution on Gaza.

According to TASS on November 18, following the vote on the Gaza resolution on November 17 (Washington time), Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, criticized the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza, which was adopted at the initiative of the United States.

"President Donald Trump's plan does not specify that they will demilitarize Gaza and disarm local groups by any means possible."

However, this resolution assigns the mission peacekeeping objectives to such an extent that it could turn them into a party to the conflict and go beyond the scope of peacekeeping. As we understand it, none of the countries capable of contributing troops will participate in this initiative.

At the same time, we note that the council members had virtually no time to work diligently and seek compromise. Putting pressure on the capitals and the delegation in New York can hardly be considered an act of dedication. In short, the document presented by the US is nothing but a sham. Essentially, the council is approving the US initiative based on Washington's honorary promise," said Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya.

According to Nebenzya, the most important thing is that this document serves as a cover for uncontrolled experiments by the US and Israel on Palestinian territory, and does not become the "final conclusion" to a two-state solution.

The U.S. Permanent Mission to the United Nations previously reported that the draft resolution included provisions supporting "international stabilizing forces" and guaranteeing "a stable, secure, peaceful and prosperous future for Palestinians in Gaza without the Hamas movement." The U.S. mission clarified that they had been negotiating this document at the UN Security Council since early November.

Earlier, the United Nations Security Council had adopted this document. Russia and China abstained from voting.
