According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), Vietnam exports approximately 1.5 million tons of Robusta coffee annually, accounting for 43% of the global Robusta market and 18% of the global coffee market. This advantage helps Vietnam maintain an important position on the world coffee map.

Vietnamese Robusta coffee is primarily grown at altitudes of 400-800 meters, where the soil and climate are suitable. As a result, the coffee beans have distinct characteristics compared to Robusta from other countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, or India.

VICOFA stated that the Vietnamese coffee industry is moving towards a production model linked to ecological agriculture and a green economy. The goal is to establish green standards and enhance the brand of Vietnamese coffee through traceability, geographical indications, and carbon credits.

The European Union Council has agreed to postpone the implementation of the EUDR (Anti-Deforestation Regulation) until December 30, 2026, with an additional six months for micro and small businesses. This postponement is expected to help stabilize coffee exports to Europe and avoid potential supply disruptions.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market have risen sharply on both exchanges:

Robusta coffee (London):

January 2026 delivery: Increased by $26/ton, to $4,565/ton.

March 2026 delivery: Increased by $24/ton, to $4,413/ton.

Arabica coffee (New York):

December 2025 delivery: Up 1.5 cents/lb, to 413 cents/lb.

March 2026 delivery: Up 1.5 cents/lb, to 381.2 cents/lb.

World coffee prices are at their highest level in a week thanks to the strengthening Brazilian real. When the real is stronger against the USD, Brazilian producers tend to limit sales, leading to short covering in the futures market.

Arabica coffee futures are currently trading around $4.13 per pound, only slightly below the peak of $4.23 per pound set on November 11th. The impact of tariffs, crop concerns, and speculation continue to keep prices high.

The tariffs that the U.S. previously imposed on Brazilian coffee had driven exports down and pushed futures prices to record highs. While recent tariff exemptions have eased the pressure, the market remains cautious.

Global coffee supplies have been affected by extreme weather events, including poor harvests in Brazil and heavy rains in Vietnam. Stock levels monitored by exchanges are near their lowest since March 2024, contributing to high prices despite occasional corrections.
