Vietnamese pepper is poised to set new export records as prices surge on the international market. Decreased global supply coupled with continued high demand has pushed prices to attractive levels, helping pepper maintain its status as "black gold" among agricultural exports.
Many farmers switched to growing coffee and durian during the period of low pepper prices, leading to a contraction in supply. This decline inadvertently created momentum for pepper prices to rise further in the market, significantly improving export value.
Experts predict the price increase cycle could last for more than 10 years. In the coming year, domestic pepper prices are expected to reach 200,000 VND/kg thanks to strong impetus from the export market and continued shrinking supply.
In the short term, pepper prices are likely to remain above 148,000 VND/kg. If the floods continue to slow down the harvest, prices could even reach a new high, creating more opportunities for pepper growers in the final stages of the season.

Today's world pepper prices
According to the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the close of the most recent trading session, the IPC listed Indonesian Lampung black pepper at US$6,995/ton and Muntok white pepper at US$9,643/ton.
Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper is priced at $6,150/ton. Malaysian ASTA black pepper is priced at $9,000/ton; the price of Malaysian ASTA white pepper is $12,000/ton.
Today, Vietnamese black pepper is trading at US$6,500/ton for the 500 g/l variety; US$6,700/ton for the 550 g/l variety; and white pepper at US$9,250/ton.
As of the end of November 2025, pepper prices on the export market continued their upward trend, with total export value reaching nearly $1.52 billion. Despite a 4.4% decrease in production compared to the same period in 2024, export value increased by 24.4% thanks to the sharp rise in prices of both black and white pepper. The 7.7% decrease in production compared to 2023 did not diminish the attractiveness of this commodity.
Over the past 11 months, the average export price of black pepper reached US$6,618/ton and white pepper reached US$8,636/ton. These prices increased by US$1,767 and US$2,175 respectively compared to the same period in 2024, helping Vietnamese pepper exports maintain a highly competitive position in the world market.
Many key export businesses such as Olam Vietnam, Nedspice, Phuc Sinh, and Simexco Dak Lak are maintaining stable production levels, contributing to keeping the supply rhythm of the market steady. While some businesses have reduced production, others have seen growth, creating a balanced picture for exports and supporting pepper prices to avoid sharp fluctuations.
The US remains the largest consumer market but imports decreased by 28%. Conversely, demand from the UAE, China, and India increased sharply, with China experiencing a particularly significant 83.7% increase. This expansion from emerging markets is helping pepper prices maintain a positive trend and creating expectations of stability for the coming months.
