Amid rumors of replacing Xabi Alonso, Jurgen Klopp insists he's not in a hurry to return to the manager's seat, but doesn't rule out the possibility of a future. Xabi Alonso says he still has the full support of the dressing room.

Jurgen Klopp has clarified his position on rumors linking him to Real Madrid: he has no intention of returning to coaching at the moment, but he is not completely closing the door on the future either. This move comes amid reports in the Spanish media that Real are considering replacing coach Xabi Alonso after a series of disappointing results and a defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League.

What did Klopp say?

Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Klopp emphasized: “I’ve said before that I wouldn’t manage any other English team besides Liverpool. If I were to return to the Premier League, it could only be Liverpool. I enjoy my current job and I really don’t miss the feeling of being in charge… I’m 58, not too old but not young either. I can make a decision in a few years. If I had to choose right now, I wouldn’t return to the manager’s chair, but luckily I don’t need to make a decision quickly.”

Recent reports indicate Klopp is open to the possibility of working in La Liga. Previously, some Brazilian newspapers reported that he was not really happy with his current role at Red Bull and would only leave for one of two jobs: Real Madrid or the Brazilian national team. However, the Brazilian national team position currently belongs to Carlo Ancelotti for the upcoming World Cup campaign.

Real Madrid and the future of Xabi Alonso

Amidst heightened speculation, Alonso insisted he had no intention of leaving Real Madrid. When asked if he still had the players' support, he replied succinctly: "Yes."

Alonso added: “The whole team is very united and completely believes we can win tomorrow. Nobody doubts that. But to do it, we need to maintain the high tempo, the intensity and the best competitive spirit.”

Candidates and scripts on the director's bench

In the event that Real Madrid decides to make a change, Klopp is considered the leading candidate. Besides him, Zinedine Zidane and Alvaro Arbeloa are also on the list of potential candidates for consideration.

The timing is crucial. Klopp insists he's not in a hurry to return to coaching, while Alonso stresses the dressing room is still on his side. Between these two messages, Real needs time to assess both performance and internal stability before finalizing a plan.

Highlights from the speeches

  • Klopp left his future open but affirmed that he is not currently interested in returning to the manager's role.
  • Alonso said Real Madrid are united and have faith that victory is within their grasp.
  • Real are reportedly considering several options, including Klopp, Zidane, and Arbeloa.

Immediate impact

The wave of rumors has forced Real Madrid to simultaneously address two issues: results on the pitch and stability in the dressing room. Klopp's assertion that there's no rush has helped to cool down immediate expectations, while Alonso's statement served to reassure the team internally. The final decision – if any – will most likely depend on the trajectory of their performance in the short term.
