Eighteen years after winning the first season of Vietnam Idol, singer Phuong Vy shared insights into her career and memorable milestones on the Showtime program. She reflected on her journey from a 20-year-old girl who didn't expect to win to an artist who rediscovered her inspiration after a long period of facing pressure.

During the conversation, Phuong Vy couldn't hide her emotions: "I'm so happy to be here and still be able to sing, 18 years after winning that title, that I can still stand on this stage and still have an audience listening to my music. That's something I truly cherish."

The mark of Vietnam Idol and an unexpected beginning.

Looking back on this important milestone in her career, Phuong Vy said she participated in Vietnam Idol when she was only 20 years old and didn't fully understand the importance of the award. "Honestly, I was only 20 years old at the time and I had absolutely no idea what the award meant or what I should do with that title," she shared.

The singer revealed that she entered the competition after failing in many other competitions and only saw it as a fun summer activity. "I didn't think I would win or become a role model. But I am very proud to have won the title of Vietnam's first Idol," Phuong Vy affirmed.

Overcoming pressure and making an impressive comeback.

Phuong Vy also openly discussed her period of reduced artistic activity due to pressure and uncertainty about her musical direction. Her decision to participate in the "Beautiful Women Riding the Waves" program became a turning point, helping her rediscover her inspiration.

"It's been a long time since I released anything new because I was under a lot of pressure. I didn't know what kind of music to sing," she confided. "Before, I thought, 'Oh, I'm old, I'm outdated.' Seeing all the new young artists, I wondered, can I dance like them, or perform like them?"

However, the learning and challenging process within the program helped her realize new possibilities. "The learning process and doing new things in the program helped me discover a new side of myself. I can do those things too, and quite well at them," she added.
