Today, the Ministry of Interior issued a document seeking opinions from ministries and agencies on a plan to swap the holiday for New Year's Day, resulting in a four-day break instead of the one-day break as stipulated.

The proposed solution involves swapping Friday, January 2nd, 2026, with Saturday, January 10th, 2026, as the compensatory working day. If approved, the New Year's Day holiday would extend from Thursday to Sunday, January 1st to 4th, 2026. The consultation process was completed today.

The swapping of holiday schedules allows civil servants to have a harmonious and fulfilling holiday, stimulates tourism and social consumption, promotes economic growth, and does not alter the working time of civil servants.

During the Lunar New Year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ), civil servants and workers had 5 official days off, including 4 days before and one day after the holiday, plus four weekend days, totaling 9 days. Civil servants and workers returned to work on February 23rd, which was the 7th day of the Lunar New Year.
