PSSI reveals the coach selection process, the top candidate emerges.
PSSI revealed the process of narrowing down the head coach selection from five to two candidates after interviews in Europe. President Erick Thohir will meet with the chosen candidate in person.
The selection process for the head coach of the Indonesian national team is entering its final stage.
The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) has revealed the process for selecting a new head coach for the national team, emphasizing that it is a lengthy and thorough screening process. According to Arya Sinulingga, a member of the Executive Committee (Exco), the final decision is made after numerous meetings and in-depth evaluations, rather than in a single session.
The search journey in Europe
To find the most suitable candidates, PSSI sent two Exco members, Endri Erawan and Muhammad Sungkar, to Europe to conduct direct interviews with potential candidates. The results of these interviews were reported in detail at two PSSI Exco meetings.
"Yesterday, we had two meetings. The discussions among Exco members were very positive. Everyone expressed their views," said Arya Sinulingga. He added that the reports helped Exco gain a clearer perspective before making a final decision.

Internal discussion and consensus decision
According to Arya, the discussions went beyond just professional competence, delving into an analysis of each candidate's strengths and weaknesses. Every piece of information was meticulously examined, from the National Team Management Board (BTN) to all members of Exco.
"From the President, the two Vice Presidents, to each member, everyone contributed their views, aiming for a common decision. We discussed who best met the team's needs. I found the discussion very positive. We are united and optimistic," he emphasized.
John Herdman has emerged as a leading candidate.
Arya Sinulingga revealed that the initial list of five candidates was narrowed down to two, and Exco ultimately chose one name. While not officially confirming it, he acknowledged that media reports about the two finalists, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and John Herdman, were accurate, with John Herdman being mentioned most frequently.
"The screening process narrowed the candidates down from five to two, and ultimately one was chosen. Their names have all been published in the media," Arya said.

The PSSI Chairman's final meeting
Before the official announcement, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir and BTN Chairman Sumardji will meet in person with the selected candidate. This meeting aims to finalize key details and specific terms that will be included in the contract addendum.
"We will send Mr. Mardji along with the Chairman of the Council to meet directly with the chosen party. The goal is to reach an agreement not only on understanding, but also on other specific details," Arya Sinulingga affirmed.
