The Deputy Prime Minister agrees to a 4-day holiday for New Year's Day 2026.
In document No. 12729/VPCP-KGVX dated December 25, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra agreed with the Ministry of Interior's proposal for a four-day consecutive New Year's Day holiday.

Specifically, civil servants and public employees will have 4 consecutive days off from Thursday (January 1, 2026) to Sunday (January 4, 2026); swapping Friday (January 2, 2026), a working day, with Saturday (January 10, 2026), a weekly day off.
For employees, employers are encouraged to apply the same New Year's Day holiday schedule for 2026 as for civil servants and public employees as above, while ensuring full compliance with all legal regulations regarding employee benefits; agreements that are more favorable to employees are also encouraged.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Minister of Home Affairs to inform administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and employees as prescribed.
Agencies and units should arrange and organize on-call departments according to regulations and work efficiently to handle tasks continuously and ensure service to the people.
Ministries, agencies, and localities should have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, businesses, organizations, and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production and business, economic and social activities, ensure the supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, and contribute to promoting economic growth, practicing thrift, and combating waste before, during, and after the 2026 New Year's Day holiday.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the arrangement of swapping normal working days and making up for lost time on other days helps ensure that civil servants and public employees have a harmonious and complete holiday, while also stimulating tourism and social consumption, and promoting economic growth.
At the same time, this swap does not change the working time of civil servants and public employees.
