Foxconn acquires Luxgen: Ambition to dominate the electric vehicle ecosystem.
Foxconn's Foxtron joint venture spent $24.95 million to acquire the Luxgen brand from Yulon. This move gives the iPhone assembly giant control of the entire value chain, from design to retail.
Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a joint venture between Foxconn and Yulon Motor Group, has officially announced the acquisition of the entire Luxgen brand. The deal, valued at NT$787 million (approximately US$24.95 million), aims to help Foxconn penetrate the electric vehicle segment in the Taiwanese market through an entity that already has an established platform.

Control the value chain from design to service.
Upon completion of the deal, Foxtron will have full access to Luxgen's assets, including its workforce, distribution channels, marketing resources, and the island-wide repair and maintenance network. Foxtron CEO Adam Chen emphasized that this acquisition will create a complete electric vehicle value chain, from product development and sales to after-sales service.
The agreement is currently awaiting approval from Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission and is expected to begin review in the first quarter of 2026. A key shift in strategy is that Foxtron will launch a new electric vehicle design, the Model B, under the name Bria. Going forward, the company does not plan to launch any new electric vehicle models under the Luxgen brand.
A strategy similar to Google and Microsoft.
Directly owning an automotive brand raises questions about the consistency of Foxconn's business model, which focuses on design and manufacturing services (CDMS). However, internal sources indicate that the move does not contradict the company's overall direction.
A senior source familiar with Foxconn's strategy shared: "Similar to how Google launched the Pixel phone or Microsoft introduced the Surface line, acquiring Luxgen is an opportunity for Foxconn to demonstrate to potential partners its ability to optimize design and integrate hardware and software into a real vehicle."
Challenges from the real market
Although Foxconn has strengths in electronics manufacturing and assembly, managing an automotive brand remains a challenge. Foxconn gained attention when it introduced the n7 electric vehicle in 2023 under the Luxgen brand and recorded promising sales in the initial phase.
Below is a table summarizing the sales results of the n7 model in the Taiwanese market:
| Business indicators | Results for the first 11 months of the year |
|---|---|
| Total sales of the n7 car | 3,041 vehicles |
| Sales figures for the most recent month | 254 vehicles |
| Year-on-year growth | A decrease of 54.1% |
Analysts from the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research believe that Foxconn's strengths lie more in design and manufacturing than in marketing and retail. Luxgen's brand strength is currently limited to the domestic market, requiring Foxconn to make significant adjustments if it wants to expand internationally in the electric vehicle sector.
