Da Nang: Foreign tourists warned against wrapping bananas around themselves to play with monkeys in Son Tra.
The Son Tra Peninsula Management Board promptly intervened when a foreign tourist used bananas to tease a troop of monkeys, posing a potential risk and impacting the natural ecosystem.
The management board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang's tourist beaches recently dealt with a case of a foreign tourist behaving inappropriately while interacting with wild animals. The incident, captured on video and circulated on social media on January 18th, has raised concerns about safety and conservation in the area.
Dangerous behavior involving playing with wild monkeys.
According to the video, a male tourist wrapped several ripe bananas around his stomach, arms, and legs before venturing deep into the monkey habitat on Son Tra Peninsula. He appeared to enjoy letting the monkeys rush towards him to snatch the food from his body, despite warnings about the animals' wild behavior.

Upon discovering the incident, staff at a resort on Son Tra Peninsula quickly approached to remind the tourists. Tourism enforcement officers also arrived promptly, requesting that the tourists immediately cease teasing the animals with food, ensuring the safety of both people and the ecosystem.
Warning about violations of conservation regulations.
The male tourist's actions have drawn strong criticism from the online community. Many opinions suggest that this is an irresponsible act and a serious violation of local wildlife protection regulations. In fact, the Son Tra Peninsula has a dense network of signs prohibiting feeding monkeys to avoid altering their natural instincts.
Representatives from the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang's tourist beaches stated that despite increased awareness campaigns, some tourists, driven by curiosity, intentionally approach the monkeys. This not only poses a risk of accidents but also negatively impacts their natural habitat.
In the coming period, authorities will continue to strengthen patrols, monitoring, and strictly handle cases of deliberate violations. The Management Board advises tourists to comply with conservation regulations to maintain the image of Da Nang tourism as civilized, safe, and sustainable.
