Concluding the group stage of the 2026 U19 National Championship, U19 Song Lam Nghe An impressed with a perfect winning record and increasingly mature gameplay. Finishing first in Group C puts the team from Nghe An in a favorable position in the knockout bracket, opening up opportunities to advance further.

Entering the final round, U19 Song Lam Nghe An is in Group C along with U19 SHB Da Nang, U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai, and U19 Dong Thap. Theoretically, this is not a group with a heavy burden of renowned teams, but it presents many challenges as all the teams possess ambitious players.

Coach Nguyen Hong Viet and his team approached the tournament with a proactive mindset. In their opening match, U19 Song Lam Nghe An demonstrated their superior class with a convincing 3-0 victory over U19 SHB Da Nang. It was a game where the Nghe An team controlled the game, accelerated effectively at the right moments, and showed efficiency in their finishing.

The second victory against U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai was pivotal. In a closely contested match, U19 Song Lam Nghe An maintained their composure to win 2-1, thus securing their place in the quarterfinals with one match to spare. This game clearly demonstrated the progress of the young team from Nghe An, not only in terms of technique and tactics but also in their ability to handle pressure.

In their final match against U19 Dong Thap, despite needing only a draw to secure first place in the group, U19 Song Lam Nghe An played proactively and with a strong desire to win. Minh Thuy's beautiful free-kick opened the scoring, relieving the pressure on the yellow-shirted team, before they continued to demonstrate their superiority in the second half to close out the match with a 3-1 victory.

Winning all three matches, scoring 8 goals and conceding only 2, U19 Song Lam Nghe An concluded the group stage perfectly. More importantly, Coach Nguyen Hong Viet's team demonstrated a diverse, deep playing style that was not dependent on any single individual.

Speaking after the group stage, Coach Nguyen Hong Viet - Head Coach of SLNA U19 - emphasized: “We don't have any outstanding stars, but we compensate with strong cohesion and a very high fighting spirit. This team is strong because of its collective effort, the unity, and the desire of each player. I believe that team is strong enough to overcome even greater challenges ahead.”

Finishing top of Group C gives U19 Song Lam Nghe An a significant advantage going into the knockout round. In the quarterfinals, their opponent will be U19 Ho Chi Minh City, who finished third in Group B and advanced with a not-so-impressive record.

Compared to other potential opponents like U19 Hong Linh Ha Tinh or U19 PVF, this is clearly a more "manageable" match for U19 Song Lam Nghe An. However, that advantage is only relative, because in the knockout round, any mistake can be costly.

Looking back at the group stage, the Ho Chi Minh City U19 team didn't leave much of an impression in terms of their playing style. They often opted for a tight defensive approach, waiting for opportunities to counter-attack. This is also a tactical problem that coach Nguyen Hong Viet and his players need to solve.

Speaking ahead of the quarter-final match, coach Nguyen Hong Viet expressed caution: “We are in good spirits, but the whole team has recovered very quickly. Reaching the quarter-finals means there are no weak opponents. U19 Ho Chi Minh City has its own strengths and they will certainly play tight defense. We must be patient, more varied in our approach to the goal, and absolutely not be complacent.”

If they advance past the quarter-finals, U19 Song Lam Nghe An's next bracket is still considered quite favorable, as they could face U19 Viettel or U19 PVF. These are both familiar opponents, having faced SLNA's youth teams many times in the past, and are not names that the Nghe An team fears.

However, the road ahead will certainly not be a bed of roses. Team spirit and squad depth will be the deciding factors. U19 Song Lam Nghe An's biggest asset right now is their stability, team spirit, and a head coach who understands the players, their limitations, and their potential.

A convincing group stage performance and a favorable knockout bracket are opening up a very clear opportunity for U19 Song Lam Nghe An to get closer to their gold medal dream. But to turn this opportunity into reality, the young team from Nghe An needs to maintain the composure and desire to win that they have shown since the beginning of the tournament.
