By mid-December, the festive atmosphere of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) was evident on the streets as trucks carrying peach blossom branches from various provinces and cities continuously arrived. Besides traditional branches, bonsai peach trees and ancient peach trees also appeared, catering to the diverse flower-loving needs of people during the Lunar New Year.

According to reporters' observations on January 28th, the 10th day of the 12th lunar month, numerous trucks carrying dozens of peach blossom trees for Tet (Lunar New Year) arrived in Vinh City (formerly) to meet the demand for Tet celebrations. Among these were many large, ancient peach blossom trees, brought in by gardeners from Hanoi, Hung Yen, and other localities. Photo: QA

Ancient peach trees are large, with tall trunks and wide canopies, so the transportation process requires many steps and careful planning. From loading and securing them on the vehicle to lowering them to the display site, specialized cranes are used, along with the assistance of workers, to ensure the safety of the trees and minimize damage during transit. According to our research, peach blossom prices this year tend to be higher than in previous years. For old, mature peach trees, the rental price ranges from 10 to 15 million VND, while beautiful trees with unique shapes can fetch tens of millions of VND if sold outright, depending on size and form. Ancient peach trees, some decades old, with thick trunks, majestic shapes, wide canopies, and numerous buds, are especially favored by peach tree enthusiasts during Tet (Lunar New Year). Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these trees are considered symbols of prosperity and good fortune, contributing to a more dignified and spring-filled display space. (Photo: QA)

The good news is that this year, the imported peach trees have a large number of buds, promising that they will bloom just in time for Tet (Lunar New Year) so that people can celebrate the spring festival. Photo: QA

According to vendors, peach blossom trees for Tet (Lunar New Year) are more unique than kumquats, pomelos, or apricot blossoms, so the timing of their market entry must be precise. If transported and displayed too early in hot weather, the peach blossoms are likely to bloom prematurely, reducing their value. Therefore, around mid-December, when sourcing goods from northern provinces, sellers usually select trees with many buds that haven't yet bloomed to ensure the peach blossoms bloom at the right time for Tet. In particular, many ancient peach trees have a layer of green moss clinging to their trunks and roots, creating a rare, ancient and serene appearance. These marks of time not only enhance the aesthetic value of the trees but also make them unique, attracting special attention from peach tree enthusiasts and visitors during Tet (Lunar New Year).
