In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the demand for travel from major provinces and cities back to Nghe An is increasing rapidly, especially among workers and students. Anticipating a peak period, many people have proactively planned and booked tickets early to avoid overcrowding, ticket shortages, and high fares in the days before Tet.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, originally from Minh Chau commune and working in Ho Chi Minh City, said that this year he booked his train ticket to Vinh at the beginning of the twelfth lunar month. “I learned from previous years that if you wait until close to Tet, it’s very difficult to buy tickets, the prices are high, and you worry about the crowds. Booking early helps me manage my time and feel more at ease when returning home,” Mr. Hung shared.

Surveys at bus stations and on online ticketing systems show that many bus and flight routes during peak days are quickly fully booked. Some passengers choose to book tickets online or contact bus companies directly to reserve seats in advance, avoiding waiting times and crowds at bus stations.

In anticipation of a surge in travel demand, road passenger transport businesses in Nghe An province have proactively prepared vehicles and personnel to serve the peak Tet holiday season. A representative from Sao Nghe Bus Company stated that the company currently operates 20 high-class 20-seat sleeper buses on the Nghe An - Hanoi route, ready to increase trips when passenger numbers rise. Ticket prices are adjusted in accordance with government regulations, ensuring a balance of interests between the company and passengers, while also committing to improving service quality during Tet.

According to Nghe An Bus Station Joint Stock Company, more than a month before Tet (Lunar New Year), inter-provincial passenger transport businesses were required to develop specific service plans and prepare sufficient vehicles and personnel. The demand for travel during this year's Tet holiday is predicted to increase sharply compared to normal days, focusing on intra-provincial routes and long-distance routes connecting Nghe An with Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Approximately 550 vehicles from over 60 transportation companies inside and outside the province are expected to participate in serving passengers during the Tet holiday. Before departure, all vehicles undergo rigorous inspections regarding technical safety, environmental hygiene, and onboard equipment to ensure passenger safety throughout the journey.

Along with road transport, rail transport has also seen a surge in demand. Many trains on peak days sold out early. For example, the Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh route on February 12, 2026 (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month) with 11 trains such as SE8, SE12, SE14... all had sold-out tickets.

Mr. Cao Ngoc Tuan, Head of Vinh Railway Transport Station, said that the number of passengers returning to Nghe An from southern provinces during Tet this year has increased sharply. In response, the station has coordinated with the railway industry to increase the number of trains, add carriages on routes with high demand, and allocate sufficient personnel to ensure safe and orderly passenger pick-up and drop-off, creating convenience for passengers during the peak Tet season.

In the aviation sector, ticket shortages are also occurring on many routes. Surveys on the online ticketing systems of Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways show that routes such as Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh - Da Lat, Vinh - Buon Ma Thuot, and Vinh - Can Tho have seen a surge in demand. Specifically on February 12th, 2026 (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month), economy class direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh were sold out, with only connecting flights to Hanoi remaining at double the price.

Airlines have proactively developed plans to increase flights and add more flights during suitable time slots, helping to meet the travel needs of passengers during the peak Tet holiday season.

In response to increased travel demand, the Nghe An Department of Construction has developed a comprehensive plan to strengthen state management of transportation activities during the Lunar New Year holiday of 2026. The focus is on ensuring sufficient transportation, improving service quality, maintaining traffic safety and order, and protecting the legitimate rights of passengers.

For fixed-route passenger transport, businesses are required to organize advance ticket sales through various methods, publicly and transparently displaying ticket prices according to the declared and posted rates; any unauthorized price increases or price gouging are strictly prohibited. At the same time, units must proactively plan for increasing trips and reallocating vehicles when necessary, and must not abandon fixed routes to operate illegal contract services.

The Department of Construction also requested transportation businesses to strengthen the dissemination and education of professional ethics for their drivers and service personnel; strictly comply with traffic safety regulations, not carry more passengers than permitted, and not transport prohibited or dangerous goods.

Drivers are strictly prohibited from using alcohol or stimulants while working; they must not compete for customers, overcharge, or pick up and drop off passengers in violation of regulations. Taxi company call centers must operate 24/7 to promptly receive and handle passenger complaints.

For freight transport, the focus is on ensuring the timely supply of essential goods for Tet (Lunar New Year), without raising freight rates, especially in remote areas. Vehicles must strictly comply with regulations on load capacity and vehicle dimensions, and must not transport prohibited goods or goods of unknown origin.

Mr. Nghiem Manh Tuan, Director of Vinh International Airport, stated: The airport has proactively implemented numerous solutions to ensure absolute flight safety and improve passenger service quality during the peak Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday season of 2026. After more than six months of temporary suspension for upgrades, the entire technical infrastructure system, including runways, taxiways, aprons, lighting systems, and navigation equipment, has been inspected and is operating synchronously according to procedures, meeting the requirements for safe operation under all conditions.

In addition, the airport has strengthened aviation security control and fire prevention, closely coordinating with airlines in arranging flight schedules and allocating reasonable operating hours to minimize congestion during peak hours. Ground service, check-in, and security screening personnel have been reinforced to assist passengers, thereby better serving the travel needs of the people.

During the discussion, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Head of the Transport Management Department of the Nghe An Department of Construction, stated that the Department will strengthen inspections and checks throughout the Tet holiday, strictly handle violations in transportation activities, and closely coordinate with bus stations, businesses, and functional forces to promptly regulate vehicles and prevent prolonged congestion or shortages.
